حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِکُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ حَدَّثَنِي صَفْوَانُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ هُوَ مِنْ آلِ ابْنِ الْأَزْرَقِ أَنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ وَهُوَ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الدَّارِ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ جَائَ رَجُلٌ إِلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا نَرْکَبُ الْبَحْرَ وَنَحْمِلُ مَعَنَا الْقَلِيلَ مِنْ الْمَائِ فَإِنْ تَوَضَّأْنَا بِهِ عَطِشْنَا أَفَنَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ مَائِ الْبَحْرِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ الطَّهُورُ مَاؤُهُ الْحِلُّ مَيْتَتُهُ

. It was narrated that Mughirah bin Abu Burdah, who was from the tribe of Banu 'Abdud-Dar, said that he heard Abu Hurairah say: "A man came to the Messenger of Allah and said: '0 Messenger of Allah, we travel by sea and carry a small amount of water with us. If we use it for ablution, we will become thirsty. Can we perform ablution with seawater?’ The Messenger of Allah said: 'Its water is a means of purification, and its dead meat is permissible, (i.e. the fish found dead in the sea)."

حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي سَهْلٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ بُکَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ بَکْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ مَخْشِيٍّ عَنْ ابْنِ الْفِرَاسِيِّ قَالَ کُنْتُ أَصِيدُ وَکَانَتْ لِي قِرْبَةٌ أَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَائً وَإِنِّي تَوَضَّأْتُ بِمَائِ الْبَحْرِ فَذَکَرْتُ ذَلِکَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ هُوَ الطَّهُورُ مَاؤُهُ الْحِلُّ مَيْتَتُهُ

It was narrated that Ibn Firasi said: "I was fishing and I had a vessel with me in which I kept water, and I used seawater for ablution. I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah and he said: 'Its water is a means of purification, and its dead meat is permissible:"

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَی حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَقُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنِ مِقْسَمٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُئِلَ عَنْ مَائِ الْبَحْرِ فَقَالَ هُوَ الطَّهُورُ مَاؤُهُ الْحِلُّ مَيْتَتُهُ قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْهَسْتَجَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ بْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَقُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ هُوَ ابْنُ مِقْسَمٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَکَرَ نَحْوَهُ

It was narrated from Jabir that the Prophet was asked about seawater, and he said: "Its water is a means of purification, and its dead meat is permissible."
