وأخبرنا أبو عبد الرحمن السلمي ، قال : سمعت أحمد بن محمد بن مقسم ، يقول : أخبرني بعض أصحابنا يقول : أخبرني المزني ، قال : دخلت على الشافعي في مرضه الذي مات فيه فأنشدني لنفسه : ما شئت كان وإن لم أشأ وما شئت إن لم تشأ لم يكن خلقت العباد على ما علمت ففي العلم يجري الفتى والمسن فمنهم شقي ومنهم سعيد ومنهم قبيح ومنهم حسن على ذا مننت وهذا خذلت وهذا أعنت وذا لم تعن وفي رواية الربيع قدم البيت الرابع على البيت الثالث ، ورويناه بإسناد آخر عن الربيع ، عن الشافعي في كتاب الأسماء والصفات

510 - أخبرنا أبو عبد الله الحافظ ، قال : أخبرني أبو الحسن محمد بن عبد الله الجوهري قال : سمعت أبا بكر محمد بن إسحاق يقول : سمعت أبا عبد الله محمد بن يحيى يقول : « السنة عندنا أن الإيمان ، قول وعمل ، يزيد وينقص ، وهو قول أئمتنا مالك بن أنس ، وعبد الرحمن بن عمرو الأوزاعي ، وسفيان بن سعيد الثوري ، وسفيان بن عيينة الهلالي ، وأن الأعمال والفرائض وأعمال الجوارح في طاعة الله أجمع من الإيمان ، وأن القدر خيره وشره من الله عز وجل ، وقد جف (1) القلم بما هو كائن إلى أن تقوم الساعة ، علم الله من العباد ما هم عاملون ، وإلى ما هم صائرون ، وأمرهم ونهاهم فمن لزم أمر الله عز وجل وآثر طاعته فبتوفيق الله ، ومن ترك أمر الله وركب معاصيه فبخذلان الله إياه ، ومن زعم أن الاستطاعة قبل العمل بالجوارح إليه إن شاء عمل وإن شاء لم يعمل فقد كذب بالقدر ، ورد كتاب الله نصا ، وزعم أنه مستطيع لما لم يرده الله ونحن نبرأ إلى الله عز وجل من هذا القول ، ولكن نقول الاستطاعة في العبد مع الفعل فإذا عمل عملا بالجوارح من بر أو فجور علمنا أنه كان مستطيعا للفعل الذي فعل ، فأما قبل أن يفعله فإنا لا ندري لعله يريد أمرا ، فيحال بينه وبين ذلك ، والله تبارك وتعالى مريد لتكوين أعمال الخلق ، ومن ادعى خلاف ما ذكرنا فقد وصف الله بالعجز وهلك في الدارين ، وأن القرآن كلام الله غير مخلوق به خلق الخلق وكون الأشياء قال الله في محكم كتابه : ألا له الخلق والأمر (2) ففصل الأمر من الخلق ، فبأمره خلق الخلق قال : كن فكان ، وكلامه من أمره ليس بمخلوق ، وأن الله يرى في الآخرة بالأبصار يراه أهل الجنة ، بهذا ندين الله بصدق نية عليه نحيا ونموت إن شاء الله ، وأن خير الناس بعد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم المقدم في التفضيل أبو بكر ، ثم عمر ، ثم عثمان ، ثم علي »
