حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيْرُ صُفُوفِ الرِّجَالِ أَوَّلُهَا وَشَرُّهَا آخِرُهَا وَخَيْرُ صُفُوفِ النِّسَائِ آخِرُهَا وَشَرُّهَا أَوَّلُهَا قَالَ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ جَابِرٍ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ وَأُبَيٍّ وَعَائِشَةَ وَالْعِرْبَاضِ بْنِ سَارِيَةَ وَأَنَسٍ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

Abu Hurairah narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: The best rows for the men are the first of them, and the worst are the last of them. And the best rows for the women are the last of them, and the worst are the first of them.

وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لِلصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ ثَلَاثًا وَلِلثَّانِي مَرَّةًو قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ أَنَّ النَّاسَ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي النِّدَائِ وَالصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَجِدُوا إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْتَهِمُوا عَلَيْهِ لَاسْتَهَمُوا عَلَيْهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِذَلِکَ إِسْحَقُ بْنُ مُوسَی الْأَنْصَارِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِکٌ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ و حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ نَحْوَهُ

Narrator not mentioned: And the Prophet said: If the people knew what (reward) is in the call (Adhan) and the first row, and they found no other way to get that except drawing lots, then they would draw lots.
