حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَسْمَعُهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَمَّرَ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ فَبَلَغَهُ أَنَّ النَّاسَ عَابُوا أُسَامَةَ وَطَعَنُوا فِي إِمَارَتِهِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي النَّاسِ فَقَالَ كَمَا حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ أَلَا إِنَّكُمْ تَعِيبُونَ أُسَامَةَ وَتَطْعَنُونَ فِي إِمَارَتِهِ وَقَدْ فَعَلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ بِأَبِيهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَإِنْ كَانَ لَخَلِيقًا لِلْإِمَارَةِ وَإِنْ كَانَ لَأَحَبَّ النَّاسِ كُلِّهِمْ إِلَيَّ وَإِنَّ ابْنَهُ هَذَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ لَأَحَبُّ النَّاسِ إِلَيَّ فَاسْتَوْصُوا بِهِ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ خِيَارِكُمْ قَالَ سَالِمٌ مَا سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ قَطُّ إِلَّا قَالَ مَا حَاشَا فَاطِمَةَ

Saalim narrated from his father that he used to hear him narrate from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) that when he appointed Usaamah ibn Zayd (in charge of an army), news reached him that the people were criticising Usaamah and objecting to his command. The Messenger Allah (PBUH) stood before the people and said, according to what Saalim told me: "You are criticising Usaamah and objecting to his command, and you did the same to his father before. But he was fit to command and he was one of the dearest of people to me, and this son of his is one of the dearest of people to me after him. So treat him well, for he is one of the best of you," Saalim said: I never heard 'Abdullah narrate this hadeeth but he said: Except Faatimah.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ عَنْ رُؤْيَا رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي وَبَاءِ الْمَدِينَةِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ امْرَأَةً سَوْدَاءَ ثَائِرَةَ الرَّأْسِ خَرَجَتْ مِنْ الْمَدِينَةِ حَتَّى قَامَتْ بِمَهْيَعَةَ فَأَوَّلْتُ أَنَّ وَبَاءَهَا نُقِلَ إِلَى مَهْيَعَةَ وَهِيَ الْجُحْفَةُ

Saalim narrated (a report about) a dream that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saw concerning the epidemic of Madinah. It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "I saw a black woman with unkempt hair coming out of Madinah until she stopped in a vast flat land. I interpreted it as meaning that the epidemic would move to a vast flat land." And that was al-Juhfah.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الْوَلَاءِ وَعَنْ هِبَتِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ سَمِعْتَ مِنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَسَأَلَهُ عَنْهُ ابْنُهُ حَمْزَةُ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet (PBUH) forbade selling or giving away the rights connected to wala.'

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِمَهُمْ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَامَ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَلْبَسُ هَذَا الْخَاتَمَ ثُمَّ نَبَذَهُ فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ

It was narrated that 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) acquired a ring of gold, and the people acquired rings of gold. Then he stood up one day and said: "I used to wear this ring, then he threw it away and the people threw their rings away.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ بِلَالًا يُنَادِي بِلَيْلٍ فَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يُنَادِيَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Bilaal gives the call to prayer when it still night, so eat and drink until you hear the call of Ibn Umm Maktoom.”

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ أَخْبَرَنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ وَقَّتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ ذَا الْحُلَيْفَةِ وَلِأَهْلِ نَجْدٍ قَرْنًا وَلِأَهْلِ الشَّامِ الْجُحْفَةَ وَزَعَمُوا أَنَّهُ وَقَّتَ لِأَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ يَلَمْلَمَ

'Abdullah ibn Dinar said: I heard Ibn 'Umar say: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) defined the miqaat of the people of Madeenah as Dhu'l-Hulayfah; that of the people of Najd as Qarrv that of the people of Shaam (Syria) as al-Juhfah; and they say that he defined that of the people of Yemen as Yalamlam.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي أَشْتَرِي الْبَيْعَ فَأُخْدَعُ فَقَالَ إِذَا كَانَ ذَاكَ فَقُلْ لَا خِلَابَةَ

It was narrated from ibn 'Umar that a man of Quraysh said to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH): I buy and sell and I am taken advantage of. He said: "If that is the case, say: There should be no dieating (on either side)."

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَاصِمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ قَالَ كُنَّا فِي بُسْتَانٍ لَنَا أَوْ لِعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ نَرْمِي فَحَضَرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَامَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ إِلَى مَقْرَى الْبُسْتَانِ فِيهِ جِلْدُ بَعِيرٍ فَأَخَذَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهِ فَقُلْتُ أَتَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهِ وَفِيهِ هَذَا الْجِلْدُ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا كَانَ الْمَاءُ قُلَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَنْجُسُ

‘Aasim ibn al-Mundhir said: We were in a garden that belonged to us or to 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, practising shooting. The time for prayer came, so 'Ubayullah went to a cistern in the garden in which there was the skin of a camel, and started doing wudoo' from it. I said: Are you doing wudoo' from it when there is this skin in it? He said; The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "If the water is the amount of two or three quliahs (a qullah is an earthenware bottle) it cannot become impure."

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَعْمَرَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ إِنَّ عِنْدَنَا رِجَالًا يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الْأَمْرَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ فَإِنْ شَاءُوا عَمِلُوا وَإِنْ شَاءُوا لَمْ يَعْمَلُوا فَقَالَ أَخْبِرْهُمْ أَنِّي مِنْهُمْ بَرِيءٌ وَأَنَّهُمْ مِنِّي بُرَآءُ ثُمَّ قَالَ جَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ مَا الْإِسْلَامُ فَقَالَ تَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ لَا تُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَتُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ وَتُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ وَتَصُومُ رَمَضَانَ وَتَحُجُّ الْبَيْتَ قَالَ فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَنَا مُسْلِمٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ فَمَا الْإِحْسَانُ قَالَ تَخْشَى اللَّهَ تَعَالَى كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ فَإِنْ لَا تَكُ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ قَالَ فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَنَا مُحْسِنٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ فَمَا الْإِيمَانُ قَالَ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْبَعْثِ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْمَوْتِ وَالْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ وَالْقَدَرِ كُلِّهِ قَالَ فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَنَا مُؤْمِنٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ صَدَقْتَ

It was narrated from Yahya ibn Ya'mur: I said to Ibn 'Umar: We have some men among us who claim that matters are in their hands; if they wish they will do something and if they wish they will not do it! He said: Tell them that I have nothing to do with them and they have nothing to do with me. Then he said: Jibreel (AS) came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: "O Muhammad, what is Islam?" He said: "To worship Allah, not associating anything with Him; to establish prayer; to pay zakaah; tu fast Ramadan; and to go on pilgrimage to the House." He said: If I do that, will I be a Muslim? He said: "Yes." He said: you are right; what is ihsaan? He said: "To fear Allah as if you can see Him and if you cannot see him He can see you." He said: If I do that, will I be a muhsin? He said: "Yes." He said: You are right; what is faith? He said: "To believe in Allah, His Angels, His books, His Messengers, the resurrection after death, Paradise and Hell, and the divine decree in its entirety.” He said: If I do that, will I be a believer? He said: "Yes." He said You are right.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَعْمَرَ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ قَالَ وَكَانَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام يَأْتِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي صُورَةِ دِحْيَةَ

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْلَمُ سَالَمَهَا اللَّهُ وَغِفَارٌ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهَا

'Abdullah ibn Dinar narrated: Ibn 'Umar heard from the Prophet (PBUH) " May Allah keep Aslam safe and sound (saalama) and may Allah forgive (ghafara) Ghifaar."

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا صَخْرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جُوَيْرِيَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا أَنَا عَلَى بِئْرٍ أَنْزِعُ مِنْهَا إِذْ جَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ فَأَخَذَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الدَّلْوَ فَنَزَعَ ذَنُوبًا أَوْ ذَنُوبَيْنِ وَفِي نَزْعِهِ ضَعْفٌ وَاللَّهُ يَغْفِرُ لَهُ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ مِنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَاسْتَحَالَتْ فِي يَدِهِ غَرْبًا فَلَمْ أَرَ عَبْقَرِيًّا مِنْ النَّاسِ يَفْرِي فَرِيَّهُ حَتَّى ضَرَبَ النَّاسُ بِعَطَنٍ

It was narrated from ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Whilst I was at a well, drawing water, Abu Bakrand 'Umar came. Abu Baker took the bucket and drew one or twobuckets, but there was some weakness in his drawing. May Allah forgive him. Then 'Umar bin al-Khattaab took it from Abu Bakr and the bucket turned into a very large one in his hands. I had never seen such a mighty person as he in doing such hard work, until all the people drank to their satisfaction."
