مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5857

It was narrated from Yahya ibn Ya'mur: I said to Ibn 'Umar: We have some men among us who claim that matters are in their hands; if they wish they will do something and if they wish they will not do it! He said: Tell them that I have nothing to do with them and they have nothing to do with me. Then he said: Jibreel (AS) came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: "O Muhammad, what is Islam?" He said: "To worship Allah, not associating anything with Him; to establish prayer; to pay zakaah; tu fast Ramadan; and to go on pilgrimage to the House." He said: If I do that, will I be a Muslim? He said: "Yes." He said: you are right; what is ihsaan? He said: "To fear Allah as if you can see Him and if you cannot see him He can see you." He said: If I do that, will I be a muhsin? He said: "Yes." He said: You are right; what is faith? He said: "To believe in Allah, His Angels, His books, His Messengers, the resurrection after death, Paradise and Hell, and the divine decree in its entirety.” He said: If I do that, will I be a believer? He said: "Yes." He said You are right.
