It was narrated that 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar said: A funeral passed by us, and Ibn 'Umar said: Why don't you get up and let us go with them. He took me by the hand, and held on tight. Then when we drew close to the graveyard he heard the sound of wailing from behind him. He was holding my hand and he turned around to face towards her (the woman who was wailing). He told her off and said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) forbade following any funeral procession that is accompanied by wailing women.

Abu Suwayd al-'Abdi narrated: We came to Ibn 'Umar and sat at his door, waiting to be given permission to enter, but permission was slow in coming. So I got up and looked through a hole in the door, and he spotted me. When he gave me permission to enter, we went to him and sat down. He said: Which of you looked into my house just now? I said: It was me. He said: On what basis did you regard it as permissible to look into my house? I said: Permission (to enter) was slow in coming, so I took a look, I did not do it for a bad reason. Then they asked him about various things, and he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say:"Islam is built upon five [pillars]: the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah; establishing regular prayer (salaah); paying the zakaah; Hajj (pilgrimage) to the House; and fasting Ramadaan. I said O Abu 'Abd ar-Ralunaan, what do you say about striving (jihad)? He said: Whoever strives is striving for his own benefit.

News of that reached ‘Abdullah, so he rushed back to his family, took off the clothes he was wearing and put on the clothes he used to wear when he went to the Prophet (PBUH) then he went to the prayer place. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) had already come down from his minbar and the people were gathered around hirp, talking to him. He said: What new thing did the Prophet of Allah (PBUH) say today? They said: He forbade nabeedh. He said: What type of nabeedh? He said: He forbade (nabeedh made in) gourds and hollowed out stumps. I (the narrator) said to Naafi': What about earthenware jars?
