It was narrated that Ab dull da ibn TJma r said: There was the stump of a palm tree in the mosque on which the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to lean back on Fridays, or if something happened and he needed to address the people. They said: O Messenger of Allah (PBUH), shall we not make for you something to stand on? He said: "There is nothing wrong with you doing that." So they made him a minbar with three steps. He sat on it and the palm, tree trunk made a sound like die lowing of a cow, grieving for the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) He hugged it and patted it until it calmed down.

A funeral passed by, followed by people who were weeping, and 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar said: If the family of this deceased man refrained from weeping, it would be better for their deceased one. Salamah ibn al-Azraq said: Are you saying this, O Abu 'Abd ar-Rahmaan? He said: Yes, I am saying it. He said: I heard Abu Hurayrah, when a member o Maxwaan's family died and the women gathered to weep for him- Marwaan said: Get up, O ‘Abd al-Malik, and tell them not to weep But Abu Hurayrah said: Let them be, for a member of the Prophet's family died and the women gathered to weep for him, and 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab wanted to tell them to stop weeping and to send them out, but the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Let them be, O son of al-Khattaab, for the eye weeps and the heart grieves, and the calamity has only just happened." Ibn 'Umar said: Did you hear that from Abu Hurayrah? He said: Yes. He said: Did he narrate it from the Prophet (PBUH). He said: Yes. He said: Then Allah and His Messenger know best.
