It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: We said: O Messenger of Allah, what about what we did when we were in a state of shirk - will we be held accountable for it? He said: "Whoever among you does good in Islam will not be held accountable for what he did in a state of shirk, and whoever among you does evil in Islam, will be held accountable for what he did in a state of shirk and in Islam."

It was narrated from Abu Waail, from 'Abdullah, that he said: Sometimes I am told that you have gathered here; what keeps me from coming out to you is fear of boring you. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to choose an appropriate time to exhort us (i.e., when we were alert, and did not exhort us all the time), for fear of boring us.

It was crated that Abu iVaa'il said: We came in the morning to 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ood one day, after Fajr prayer. We said salaam at the door and permission was given to us to enter. One man among the people said: Last night I recited all of al-mufassal [soorahs from Qaaf to the end of the Qur'an]. He said: This is like the hasty recitation of poetry! We used to hear the recitation and i remember the pairs that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to recite: eighteen soorahs from al-mufassal and two soorahs from the family of Ha-Meem.

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ood that he said: I was a boy lending some sheep belonging to Utbah bin Abi Mu'ayt when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and Abu Bakr (RA) came, fleeing from the mushrikeen. They said: "O boy, you have any milk you can give us to drink?" I said: I have been entrusted (with these sheep, which do not belong to me); Icannot give you anything to drink. The prophet (PBUH) said,”Isthere a sheep that has not been impregnated by the ram?” I said: yes. I brought a sheep and the prophet (PBUH) caught it and wiped udder filled. Then Abu Bakr brought him a hollowed out stone and he milked it into it. He drank and Abu Bakr drank, then drank, then he said to the udder. "Dry up," and it did. Then came to him after that and said: Teach me some of these words. He patted me and the head and said. "You are a little boy and yon will learn (later)." And I learned from his lips seventy soorahs without anyone (being with me at the time) to distract me.

It was narrated from Ibn Mas' ood that on the day of Uhud, the women came behind the Muslim army, finishing off the rounded mushrikeen. If I had to swear on that day, I would have hoped that my oath would stand if i were to swear that there was no one among us who wanted Worldly gain, until Allah (PBUH) revealed the words: "Among you are some that desire this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then He made you flee from them (your enemy), that He might test you" [Aal 'Imraan 3:152]. When the companions of the prophet (PBUH) disobeyed orders and went against what they had been commanded to do, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was left alone with nine people, seven of the Ansaar and two men from Quraysh, and he was the tenth. When the enemy wore him down, he said: "May Allah have mercy on a man who pushes them back from us." One of the Ansaari men got up and fought for a while until he was killed. Then when they wore him down again, he said: "May Allah have mercy on a man who pushes them back from us," and he kept saying that until all seven had been killed. Then the Prophet said to his two companions (who were left): "We have not been fair to our companions." Then Abu Sufyaan came and said: Exalted be Hubal. the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Say; Allah is more exalted and more glorious!" So they said; Allah is more exalted and more Slorious! Abu Sufyaan said: We have 'Uzza and you have no 'Uzza. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Say: Allah is our protector and the disbelievers have no protector." Then Abu Sufyaan said: A day in return for the day of Badr; a day for us and a day against us; a day when we are disappointed and a day when we rejoice; Hanzalah for Hanzalah, So and so for So and so... The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "They are not the same; our slain are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision, whereas your slain are in the Fire, being punished-" Abu Sufyaan said: There have been some mutilations among the dead; it happened without our consent. I did not command it and i did not prohibit it; it is neither pleased or upset i me. So they looked and they found that Hamzah's belly had been cut open; Hind took his liver and chewed it, but she could not swallow it. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said; Did she eat any of it?" They said: No. He said Allah would not allow any part of Hamzah to enter the Fire." The Messenger of Allah placed Hamzah (on the ground} to offer the (funeral) prayer for him, and an Ansaari man was brought and placed beside him. Then he the prayer for him, and the Ansaari was taken away and Hamzah was left. Then they brought another and placed him beside Hamzah and he offered the funeral prayer for him, then (that man) was taken away and Hamzah was left, until he had offered the funeral prayer for him geventy times.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah from the Prophet (PBUH) that he said: "Staying up at night is only for two men, or for one of two men: one who is praying and one who is travelling."
