It was narrated that Abu Saeed Al-Khudri said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘If a person accepts Islam, such that his Islam is good, Allah will decree reward for every good deed that he did before, and every bad deed that he did before will be erased. Then after that will come the reckoning; each good deed will be rewarded ten times up to seven hundred times. And each bad deed will be recorded as it is, unless Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, forgives it.” (Sahih)

When he entered he heard the women crying and saying: “We thought that your death would come when fighting in the cause of Allah.” He said: “You think that martyrdom only comes when one is killed in the cause of Allah. In that case your martyrs would be few. Being killed in the cause of Allah is martyrdom, dying of an abdominal complaint is martyrdom, being burned to death is martyrdom, drowning is martyrdom, being crushed beneath a falling wall is martyrdom, dying of pleurisy is martyrdom, and the woman who dies along with her fetus is a martyr.” A man said: “Are you weeping when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم is sitting here?” He said: “Let them be, but if he dies no one should weep for him.” (Sahih)

Narrated Ubadah ibn as-Samit: The tradition mentioned above (No. 4401) has also been transmitted by Ubadah ibn as-Samit through a different chain of narrators. This version has: The people said to Saad ibn Ubadah: Abu Thabit, the prescribed punishments have been revealed: if you find a man with your wife, what will you do? He said: I shall strike them with a sword so much that they become silent (i. e. die). Should I go and gather four witnesses? Until that (time) the need would be fulfilled. So they went away and gathered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah! did you not see Abu Thabit. He said so-and-so. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The sword is a sufficient witness. He then said: No, no, a furious and a jealous man may follow this course. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by Waki from al-Fadl bin Dilham from al-Hasan, from Qabisah bin Huraith, from Salamah bin al-Muhabbaq, from the Prophet ﷺ. And this is the chain of the tradition narrated by Ibn al-Muhabbaq to the effect that a man had sexual intercourse with a slave girl of his wife. Abu Dawud said: Al-Fadl bin Dilham was not the memoriser of traditions. He was a butcher in Wasit.

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: A slave-girl belonging to the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ committed fornication. He (the Prophet) said: Rush up, Ali, and inflict the prescribed punishment on her. I then hurried up, and saw that blood was flowing from her, and did not stop. So I came to him and he said: Have you finished inflicting (punishment on her)? I said: I went to her while her blood was flowing. He said: Leave her alone till her bleeding stops; then inflict the prescribed punishment on her. And inflict the prescribed punishment on those whom your right hands possess (i. e. slaves). Abu Dawud said: A similar tradition has been transmitted by Abu al-Ahwas from Abd al-A'la, and also by Shubah from Abd al-A'la. This version has: He said: Do not give her beating until she gives birth to a child. But the former (version) is sounder.

Abdur-Rahman bin Awf said: We think that you should prescribe the lightest punishment. So he fixed eight lashes for it. But the people were agreeable to accepting a fine, so the Prophet ﷺ said: Among Allah's servants there are those who, if they adjured Allah, He (Allah) would consent to it.
