Abu Hurayrah's narrations reach us through a vast network of teachers and students. He learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ and from senior companions, and in turn became the teacher of hundreds of Tabi'un — the generation whose preservation of his narrations forms the backbone of the major Hadith collections.

Abu Hurayrah learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ during his three years of close companionship, and supplemented his knowledge by studying with senior Sahaba in Madinah.
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ لَيَهْلِكُنَّ، فَنَزَلَتْ
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ إِنِّي
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ لَيُهْلَكُنَّ، فَنَزَلَتْ فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ قِتَالٌ
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، هَلَكَتْ دَوْسٌ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَرَفَعَ النَّبِيُّ يَدَيْهِ
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، فَقِيلَ لَهَا: قُتِلَ خَالُكِ حَمْزَةُ.
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ آنِفاً
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، فَقِيلَ لَهَا: قُتِلَ زَوْجُكِ،
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُون قلت أجل
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ} [البقرة: أُخْرِجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ لَيَهْلِكَنَّ،
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، لَنَهْلِكَنَّ، فَنَزَلَتْ فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ قِتَالٌ
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ أَخْرَجُوا نَبِيَّهَمْ لَيَهْلِكُنَّ.
إليه راجعون. فقلت: أجل؛
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُون ليهلكن
إليه راجعون قلت قلت أجل
إليه راجعون أتاني جبريل
إِلَيهِ رَاجِعُونَ البقرة
لِلَّهِ، حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ قَدْ حَدَثَ شَيْءٌ، فَقُلْتُ: مَا لَكَ؟
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ لَوْ أَنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ قَطَعَ مِنِّي عُضْوًا مَا هِجْتُهُ لِمَا
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، مِمَّ ذَاكَ يَا جِبْرِيلُ؟
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، فَقُلْتُ:
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُون فيمَ ذَاك يَا جِبْرِيل
إليه راجعون قلت أجل غنا لله
إليهِ رَاجِعُونَ، لَقَدْ أَصَبتُمْ خَيرًا بَجِيلًا، وَسَبَقْتُمْ شَرًّا طويلًا. أبو نعيم
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ» ثُمَّ
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ لَيَهْلِكُنَّ فَنَزَلَتْ فَعَرَفَ أَنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ قِتَالٌ
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ لَيَهْلِكُنَّ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى:
إليه راجعونَ. الديلمى
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، يَرْحَمُهُ اللهُ، مَا فَعَلَ فُلاَنٌ؟
إليه راجعون، ذهب هذا الرجل؛

أَبُو بَكْرٍ: «أَخْرَجُوا نَبِيَّهُمْ
