حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ إِنَّمَا کُنَّا نَحْفَظُ الْحَدِيثَ وَالْحَدِيثُ يُحْفَظُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَّا إِذَا رَکِبْتُمْ الصَّعْبَ وَالذَّلُولَ فَهَيْهَاتَ
ابن ماجہ · Hadith 27
It was narrated from Ibn Tâwus that his father said: “I heard Ibn ‘Abbás saying: ‘We used to memorize Ahddith, and Ahadith were memorized from the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.W) But if you go to the extremes of either exaggeration or negligence (in narrating Ahadith), there is no way we can trust your Ahâdith.” (Sahih)
