حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ قَالَ دَخَلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَعِنْدَهُ عَلْقَمَةُ وَالْأَسْوَدُ فَحَدَّثَ حَدِيثًا لَا أُرَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ إِلَّا مِنْ أَجْلِي كُنْتُ أَحْدَثَ الْقَوْمِ سِنًّا قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَبَابٌ لَا نَجِدُ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ مَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4035
It was narrated that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Yazeed said: We entered upon 'Abdullah, and 'Alqamah and al-Asw'ad were with him. He narrated a hadceth and I think he only narrated it for my sake; I was the youngest of the people. He said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), young men w r ho had nothing. And he said: "O young men, whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding one's chastity. And whoever cannot afford it should fast, for it will be a shield for him."
