حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورٌ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ مَسْرُوقٍ فِي بَيْتٍ فِيهِ تِمْثَالُ مَرْيَمَ فَقَالَ مَسْرُوقٌ هَذَا تِمْثَالُ كِسْرَى فَقُلْتُ لَا وَلَكِنْ تِمْثَالُ مَرْيَمَ فَقَالَ مَسْرُوقٌ أَمَا إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الْمُصَوِّرُونَ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 3558
It was narrated that Muslim bin Subaih said: i was with Masrooq in a house in which there was a statue of Mary. Masrooq said: Is this a statue of Chosroes? I said: No; it is a statue of Mary. Masrooq said: I heard 'Abdullah bin Mas'ood say: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "The most severely punished of the people on the Day of Resurrection will be the image makers."
