مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5749
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to give things to 'Umar, and 'Umar would say to him- O Messenger of Allah, give it to one who is more in need of it than me. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said to him: "Take it and keep it or give it in charity. Whatever comes to you of this wealth when you arc not hoping for it or asking for it, take it, otherwise do not hanker after it." Saalim said: Because of that, ibn 'Umar did not ask anyone for anything, and he did not refuse anything that was given to him.
