مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5713
It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) gave me a suit of striped silk that had been given to him by Fayrooz, and I put on the izaar, but it "drowned" me because it was too long and wide. So I tightened it and put on the rida', and covered my head with it. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) took hold of me by the shoulders and said: "O 'Abdullah, lift up your izaar, for whatever touches the ground of the izaar, to the point that it is lower than the ankles, is in the Fire." 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad said: I never saw anyone who was more concerned with lifting up the izaar than 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar.
