حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ رَقَبَةَ عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سُمَيْرَةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ فَإِذَا نَحْنُ بِرَأْسٍ مَنْصُوبٍ عَلَى خَشَبَةٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ شَقِيَ قَاتِلُ هَذَا قَالَ قُلْتُ أَنْتَ تَقُولُ هَذَا يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ فَشَدَّ يَدَهُ مِنْ يَدِي وَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِذَا مَشَى الرَّجُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي إِلَى الرَّجُلِ لِيَقْتُلَهُ فَلْيَقُلْ هَكَذَا فَالْمَقْتُولُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَالْقَاتِلُ فِي النَّارِ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5708
It was narrated that 'Abd ar-Rahmaan ibn Sumayrah said: I was walking with 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar when we saw a head set up on a wooden pole. He said: Doomed is the killer of this man. I said: Are you saying this, O Abu 'Abd ar-Rahmaan? He pulled his hand away from mine and said: Abu 'Abd ar-Rahmaan! I heard the Messenger of Allah say: "When a man of my ummah goes to another man to kill him, let the latter do like this (i.e., stretch out his neck for him to kill him), for the one who is slain will be in Paradise and the killer will be in Hell."
