مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5687

It was narrated from Zayd ibn Aslam: I heard Ibn 'Umar say: Two men who were orators came from the east at the time of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) They stood up and spoke, then they sat down, and Thaabit ibn Qays, the spokesman of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) stood up and spoke, then he sat down. And the people liked their speech. The Prophet (PBUH) stood up and said: "O people, say what you want to say (in a straightforward manner), for elaborate speech is from the Shaytaan." And the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Indeed, some eloquence is (like) magic.”
