أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَکَّةَ طَافَ بِالْبَيْتِ سَبْعًا ثُمَّ صَلَّی خَلْفَ الْمَقَامِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَی الصَّفَا مِنْ الْبَابِ الَّذِي يُخْرَجُ مِنْهُ فَطَافَ بِالصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَيُّوبُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ سُنَّةٌ

Ibn ‘Umar said: “When the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم arrived in Makkah he circumambulated the House seven times, then he prayed two Rak’ahs behind the Maqam. Then, he went out to As-Safa through the gate that is usually used to exit, and performed Sa‘between As-S afaand Al (One of the narrators Shu’bah said: Ayub informed me from ‘Amr bin Dinar from Ibn ‘Umar that he said: “A Sunnah”. أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَی عَائِشَةَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا قُلْتُ مَا أُبَالِي أَنْ لَا أَطُوفَ بَيْنَهُمَا فَقَالَتْ بِئْسَمَا قُلْتَ إِنَّمَا کَانَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَا يَطُوفُونَ بَيْنَهُمَا فَلَمَّا کَانَ الْإِسْلَامُ وَنَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ الْآيَةَ فَطَافَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَطُفْنَا مَعَهُ فَکَانَتْ سُنَّةً

It was narrated that ‘Urwah said: “I recited to ‘Aishah: ‘So it is not a sin on him who performs I-Ia or ‘Ujnrah (pilgrimage) of the House to perform the going (Tawaf) between them (As-Safa and Al-Ma rwah).’ “I said: ‘I do not care if I do not go between them?’ She said: ‘What a bad thing you have said!’ People at the time of the Jahili used not to go between them, but when Islam came and the Qur’an was revealed: ‘Verily, As-Safa and Al-Manvah are of the symbols of Allah,’ the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم went between them, and we did that with him, and thus it became part of IIajj.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا فَوَاللَّهِ مَا عَلَی أَحَدٍ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ لَا يَطُوفَ بِالصَفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ بِئْسَمَا قُلْتَ يَا ابْنَ أُخْتِي إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ لَوْ کَانَتْ کَمَا أَوَّلْتَهَا کَانَتْ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ لَا يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا وَلَکِنَّهَا نَزَلَتْ فِي الْأَنْصَارِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْلِمُوا کَانُوا يُهِلُّونَ لِمَنَاةَ الطَّاغِيَةِ الَّتِي کَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ عِنْدَ الْمُشَلَّلِ وَکَانَ مَنْ أَهَلَّ لَهَا يَتَحَرَّجُ أَنْ يَطُوفَ بِالصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَلَمَّا سَأَلُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِکَ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوْ اعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا ثُمَّ قَدْ سَنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الطَّوَافَ بَيْنَهُمَا فَلَيْسَ لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَتْرُکَ الطَّوَافَ بِهِمَا

It was narrated that ‘Urwah said: “I asked ‘Aishah about the words of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime: ‘So it is not a sin on him who performs Hajj or ‘Umrah (pilgrimage) of the House (the Ka’bah at Makkah) to perform the going (Tawaf) between them (As Safa and Al-Marwah), and (I said): ‘By Allah, there is no sin on anyone if he does not go between As-Safa and Al-Marwah.’ ‘Aishah said: ‘What a bad thing you have said, son of my brother! If this Ayah was as you have interpreted it, there would be no sin on a person if he did not go between them. But it was revealed concerning the Ansar. Before they accepted Islam, they used to enter llzram for the false goddess Manat whom they used to worship at Al Mushallal. Whoever entered Ihrám for her would refrain from going between As-Safaand Al-Ma,wah. When they asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم about that, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: ‘Verily, As-Safaand Al-Marwah (two mountains in Makkah) are of the Symbols of Allah. So it is not a sin on him who performs Hajj or ‘Umrah (pilgrimage) of the House (the Ka’bah at Makkah) to perform the going (Tawaf) between them (As-Safa and Al-Marwah).’ Then the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم enjoined going between them so no one has the right to refrain from going between them.”(Sahih).

It was narrated that Jabir said: “When he went out of the Masjid heading for A I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم say: ‘We will start with that with which Allah started.” (Sahih)

Jabir narrated that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم climbed up As-Safauntil he could see the House, then he said the Takbir. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ مِسْکِينٍ قِرَائَةً عَلَيْهِ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ عَنْ ابْنِ الْقَاسِمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِکٌ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا وَقَفَ عَلَی الصَّفَا يُکَبِّرُ ثَلَاثًا وَيَقُولُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيکَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْکُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَی کُلِّ شَيْئٍ قَدِيرٌ يَصْنَعُ ذَلِکَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَيَدْعُو وَيَصْنَعُ عَلَی الْمَرْوَةِ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ

It was narrated from Jabir that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم stood on top of A he recited the Takbir three times and said:(There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partner or associate, His is the dominion and to Him be praise, and He has power over all things).” He did that three times, and supplicated, and did the same atop Al-Marwah. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا شُعَيْبٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَاهُ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرًا عَنْ حَجَّةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ وَقَفَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَی الصَّفَا يُهَلِّلُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَيَدْعُو بَيْنَ ذَلِکَ

Ja’far bin Muhammad narrated, that he heard his father narrate, that he heard Jabir, speak of the Pilgrimage of the Prophet h “The Prophet stood atop As-Safaproclaiming the TahlIl of Allah (saying La ilaha illallah) and supplicating in between that.”

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَکَمِ عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ طَافَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْبَيْتِ سَبْعًا رَمَلَ مِنْهَا ثَلَاثًا وَمَشَی أَرْبَعًا ثُمَّ قَامَ عِنْدَ الْمَقَامِ فَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَقَرَأَ وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّی وَرَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ يُسْمِعُ النَّاسَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَاسْتَلَمَ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ فَقَالَ نَبْدَأُ بِمَا بَدَأَ اللَّهُ بِهِ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّفَا فَرَقِيَ عَلَيْهَا حَتَّی بَدَا لَهُ الْبَيْتُ وَقَالَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيکَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْکُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ عَلَی کُلِّ شَيْئٍ قَدِيرٌ وَکَبَّرَ اللَّهَ وَحَمِدَهُ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِمَا قُدِّرَ لَهُ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ مَاشِيًا حَتَّی تَصَوَّبَتْ قَدَمَاهُ فِي بَطْنِ الْمَسِيلِ فَسَعَی حَتَّی صَعِدَتْ قَدَمَاهُ ثُمَّ مَشَی حَتَّی أَتَی الْمَرْوَةَ فَصَعِدَ فِيهَا ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُ الْبَيْتُ فَقَالَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيکَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْکُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَی کُلِّ شَيْئٍ قَدِيرٌ قَالَ ذَلِکَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ ذَکَرَ اللَّهَ وَسَبَّحَهُ وَحَمِدَهُ ثُمَّ دَعَا عَلَيْهَا بِمَا شَائَ اللَّهُ فَعَلَ هَذَا حَتَّی فَرَغَ مِنْ الطَّوَافِ

It was narrated that Jabir said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم circumambulated the House seven times, walking rapidly in three circuits and walking (at a ormal pace) in three. Then he stood at the Maqam and prayed two Rak’ahs, and recited: ‘And take you (people) the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim as a place of prayer,’ raising his voice so that the people could hear. Then, he went and touched the Black Stone and went (to perform Sa’I) and said: ‘We will start with that with which Allah started.’ So he started with As Safa, climbing up until he could see the House, and he said three times:(There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partner or associate, His is the dominion and to Him be praise, He gives life and death, and He has power over all things).’ Then exclaimed Allah’s greatness and praised Him, then he supplicated as much as was decreed for him. Then he came down walking, until he reached level ground at the bottom of the valley. Then he hastened until the ground began to rise. Then he walked until he came to Al-Ma rwah and climbed up it, and when he could see the house he said: (There is none worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partner or associate, His is the dominion and to Him be praise, and He has power over all things).’ He said that three times, then he remembered Allah, and glorified and praised Him, then he supplicated there for as long as Allah willed. And he did that until he had finished Sa‘.” (Sahih)

Abu Az-Zubair narrated that he heard Jabir bin ‘Abdullah say: During the Farewell Pilgrimage the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم circumambulated the House and went between As-Safd and Al-Manvah on his mount so that the people could see him and he could see them, and they could ask him questions, and the people crowded around him. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَطَائِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ کَثِيرِ بْنِ جُمْهَانَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَقَالَ إِنْ أَمْشِي فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْشِي وَإِنْ أَسْعَی فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْعَی

It was narrated that Kathir bin Jumhan said: “I saw Ibn ‘Umar walking between As-Safaand Al- Marwah. He said: ‘I am walking because I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم : walking, and I hasten because I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم hasten.” (Hasan)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْکَرِيمِ الْجَزَرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ذَکَرَ نَحْوَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَأَنَا شَيْخٌ کَبِيرٌ

It was narrated that Saeed bin Jubair said: “I saw Ibn ‘Umar” and he mentioned something similar, except he said: “and I am an old man.” (Hasan)
