حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ إِسْمَعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جِهَارًا غَيْرَ سِرٍّ يَقُولُ أَلَا إِنَّ آلَ أَبِي يَعْنِي فُلَانًا لَيْسُوا لِي بِأَوْلِيَائَ إِنَّمَا وَلِيِّيَ اللَّهُ وَصَالِحُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

A'isha reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, the son of Jud'an established ties of relationship, fed the poor. Would that be of any avail to him? He said: It would be of no avail to him as he did not ever say: O my Lord, pardon my sins on the Day of Resurrection.

عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ ← قَيْسٍ، ← إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ← شُعْبَةُ ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ← أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلَّامِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْجُمَحِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ قَامَ آخَرُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ قَالَ سَبَقَکَ بِهَا عُکَّاشَةُ

Amr b. 'As reported: I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) quite audibly and not secretly: Behold! the posterity of my fathers, that is, so and so, are not my friends. Verily Allah and the pious believers are my friends.

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، ← الرَّبِيعُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ ← عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلَّامِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْجُمَحِيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ زِيَادٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ الرَّبِيعِ

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Seventy thousand (persons) of my Ummah would enter Paradise without rendering an account. Upon this a person said: Messenger of Allah. pray to Allah that He make me one of them. He (the Holy Prophet) said: O Allah! make him one of them. Then another stood up and said: Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He make me one of them. He (the Holy Prophet) said: 'Ukkasha has preceded you in this matter.

حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَی أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي زُمْرَةٌ هُمْ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا تُضِيئُ وُجُوهُهُمْ إِضَائَةَ الْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَامَ عُکَّاشَةُ بْنُ مِحْصَنٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ يَرْفَعُ نَمِرَةً عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ قَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَبَقَکَ بِهَا عُکَّاشَةُ

Muhammad b. Ziyad reported: I heard Abu Huraira narrate this: I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) saying a hadith like one narrated by al-Rabi'.

سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، ← ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ← يونس، ← ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، ← حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى

حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَی حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي حَيْوَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو يُونُسَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا زُمْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْهُمْ عَلَی صُورَةِ الْقَمَرِ

Abu Huraira reported: I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) saying: A group of my Ummah consisting of seventy thousand persons would enter Paradise; their faces would be as bright as the brightness of the full moon. Abd Huraira said: 'Ukkasha b. Mihsan al-Asadi then stood up wrapping the blanket around him and said: Messenger of Allah, supplicate (before) Allah that He should make me one among them. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: O Allah, make him among them. Then stood up a man from the Ansa and said: Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah that He should make me one among them. The Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: 'Ukkasha has preceded you in this matter.

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← أَبُو يُونُسَ، ← حَيْوَةُ، ← عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ← حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ خَلَفٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سِيرِينَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عِمْرَانُ قَالَ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ قَالُوا وَمَنْ هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هُمْ الَّذِينَ لَا يَکْتَوُونَ وَلَا يَسْتَرْقُونَ وَعَلَی رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَکَّلُونَ فَقَامَ عُکَّاشَةُ فَقَالَ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ قَالَ أَنْتَ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ قَالَ سَبَقَکَ بِهَا عُکَّاشَةُ

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Seventy thousand (persons) would enter Paradise as one group and among them (there would be people) whom faces would be bright like the moon.

عِمْرَانُ، ← مُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سِيرِينَ ← هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ ← الْمُعْتَمِرُ، ← يَحْيَی بْنُ خَلَفٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ

حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا حَاجِبُ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَبُو خُشَيْنَةَ الثَّقَفِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَکَمُ بْنُ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ قَالُوا مَنْ هُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هُمْ الَّذِينَ لَا يَسْتَرْقُونَ وَلَا يَتَطَيَّرُونَ وَلَا يَکْتَوُونَ وَعَلَی رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَکَّلُونَ

It is reported on the authority of 'Imran that the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Seventy thousand people of my Ummah would be admitted into Paradise without rendering any account. They (the companions) said: Who would be of those (fortunate persons)? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Those who do not cauterise and practise charm, but repose trust in their Lord, 'Ukkasha then stood up and said: Supplicate (before) Allah that He should make me one among them. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Thou art one among them He (the narrator) said: A man stood up and said: Apostle of Allah, supplicate (before) Allah that He should make me one among them. He (the Prophet said: 'Ukkasha has preceded you (in this matter).

عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ← الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْأَعْرَجِ، ← حَاجِبُ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَبُو خُشَيْنَةَ الثَّقَفِيُّ ← عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ← زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَيَدْخُلَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا أَوْ سَبْعُ مِائَةِ أَلْفٍ لَا يَدْرِي أَبُو حَازِمٍ أَيَّهُمَا قَالَ مُتَمَاسِکُونَ آخِذٌ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا لَا يَدْخُلُ أَوَّلُهُمْ حَتَّی يَدْخُلَ آخِرُهُمْ وُجُوهُهُمْ عَلَی صُورَةِ الْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ

Imran b. Husain reported: Verily the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Seventy thousand men of my Ummah would enter Paradise without rendering account. They (the companions of the Holy Prophet) said: Who would be those, Messenger of Allah? He (the Holy Prophet) said: They would be those who neither practise charm, not take omens, nor do they cauterise, but they repose their trust in their Lord.

سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ← أَبِي حَازِمٍ ← عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ← قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا حُصَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ کُنْتُ عِنْدَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ فَقَالَ أَيُّکُمْ رَأَی الْکَوْکَبَ الَّذِي انْقَضَّ الْبَارِحَةَ قُلْتُ أَنَا ثُمَّ قُلْتُ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَکُنْ فِي صَلَاةٍ وَلَکِنِّي لُدِغْتُ قَالَ فَمَاذَا صَنَعْتَ قُلْتُ اسْتَرْقَيْتُ قَالَ فَمَا حَمَلَکَ عَلَی ذَلِکَ قُلْتُ حَدِيثٌ حَدَّثَنَاهُ الشَّعْبِيُّ فَقَالَ وَمَا حَدَّثَکُمْ الشَّعْبِيُّ قُلْتُ حَدَّثَنَا عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ بْنِ حُصَيْبٍ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَا رُقْيَةَ إِلَّا مِنْ عَيْنٍ أَوْ حُمَةٍ فَقَالَ قَدْ أَحْسَنَ مَنْ انْتَهَی إِلَی مَا سَمِعَ وَلَکِنْ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عُرِضَتْ عَلَيَّ الْأُمَمُ فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ وَمَعَهُ الرُّهَيْطُ وَالنَّبِيَّ وَمَعَهُ الرَّجُلُ وَالرَّجُلَانِ وَالنَّبِيَّ لَيْسَ مَعَهُ أَحَدٌ إِذْ رُفِعَ لِي سَوَادٌ عَظِيمٌ فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُمْ أُمَّتِي فَقِيلَ لِي هَذَا مُوسَی صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَوْمُهُ وَلَکِنْ انْظُرْ إِلَی الْأُفُقِ فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا سَوَادٌ عَظِيمٌ فَقِيلَ لِي انْظُرْ إِلَی الْأُفُقِ الْآخَرِ فَإِذَا سَوَادٌ عَظِيمٌ فَقِيلَ لِي هَذِهِ أُمَّتُکَ وَمَعَهُمْ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفًا يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ وَلَا عَذَابٍ ثُمَّ نَهَضَ فَدَخَلَ مَنْزِلَهُ فَخَاضَ النَّاسُ فِي أُولَئِکَ الَّذِينَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ وَلَا عَذَابٍ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ فَلَعَلَّهُمْ الَّذِينَ صَحِبُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ فَلَعَلَّهُمْ الَّذِينَ وُلِدُوا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ وَلَمْ يُشْرِکُوا بِاللَّهِ وَذَکَرُوا أَشْيَائَ فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ مَا الَّذِي تَخُوضُونَ فِيهِ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ هُمْ الَّذِينَ لَا يَرْقُونَ وَلَا يَسْتَرْقُونَ وَلَا يَتَطَيَّرُونَ وَعَلَی رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَکَّلُونَ فَقَامَ عُکَّاشَةُ بْنُ مِحْصَنٍ فَقَالَ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ أَنْتَ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ قَامَ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ فَقَالَ ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ سَبَقَکَ بِهَا عُکَّاشَةُ

Abu Hazim narrated it on the authority of Ibn Sa'd that the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Seventy thousand persons or seven hundred thousand persons (Abu Hazim does not remember the exact number) would enter Paradise holding and supporting one another, and the first among them would not enter till the last among them would enter (therein) ; (they would enter simultaneously) and their faces would be bright like the full moon.

حُصَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ← هُشَيْمٌ، ← سعيد بن منصور

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُرِضَتْ عَلَيَّ الْأُمَمُ ثُمَّ ذَکَرَ بَاقِيَ الْحَدِيثِ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ هُشَيْمٍ وَلَمْ يَذْکُرْ أَوَّلَ حَدِيثِهِ

Husain b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported: I was with Sa'id b. Jubair when he said: Who amongst you saw a star shooting last night? I said: It was I; then I said: I was in fact not (busy) in prayer, but was stung by a scorpion (and that is the reason why I was awake and had a glimpse of the shooting star). He said: Then what did you do? I said: I practised charm. He said: What urged you to do this? I said: (I did this according to the implied suggestion) of the hadith which al-Shu'ba narrated. He said: What did al-Shu'ba narrate to you? I said: Buraida b. Husaib al-Aslami narrated to us. The charm is of no avail except in case of the (evil influence) of an eye or the sting of a scorpion. He said: He who acted according to what he had heard (from the Holy Prophet) acted rightly, but Ibn 'Abbas narrated to us from the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) that he said: There were brought before me the peoples and I saw an apostle and a small group (of his followers) along with him, another (apostle) and one or two persons (along with him) and (still another) apostle having no one with him. When a very large group was brought to me I conceived as if it were my Ummah. Then it was said to me: It is Moses and his people. You should look at the horizon, and I saw a very huge group. It was again said to me: See the other side of the horizon, and there was (also) a very huge group. It was said to me: This is your Ummah, and amongst them there were seventy thousand persons who would be made to enter Paradise without rendering any account and without (suffering) any torment. He then stood up and went to his house. Then the people began to talk about the people who would be admitted to Paradise without rendering any account and without (suffering) any torment. Some of them said: They may be those who (have had the good fortune of living) in the company of the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) and some of them said: They be those who were born in Islam and did not associate anything with Allah. Some people mentioned other things. Thereupon came forth the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) before them and he said: What was that which you were talking about? They informed him. He said: They are those persons who neither practise charm, nor ask others to practise it, nor do they take omens, and repose their trust in their Lord. Upon this 'Ukkasha b. Mihsan stood up and said: Supplicate for me that He should make me one among them. Upon this he (Messenger of Allah) said: Thou are one among them. Then another man stood up and said: Supplicate before Allah that He should make me one among them. Upon this he said: 'Ukkisha has preceded you.

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ تَکُونُوا رُبُعَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ فَکَبَّرْنَا ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ تَکُونُوا ثُلُثَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ فَکَبَّرْنَا ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ تَکُونُوا شَطْرَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَسَأُخْبِرُکُمْ عَنْ ذَلِکَ مَا الْمُسْلِمُونَ فِي الْکُفَّارِ إِلَّا کَشَعْرَةٍ بَيْضَائَ فِي ثَوْرٍ أَسْوَدَ أَوْ کَشَعْرَةٍ سَوْدَائَ فِي ثَوْرٍ أَبْيَضَ

Ibn 'Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said: Peoples would be presented to me (on the Day of Resurrection), and then the remaining part of the hadith was narrated like the one transmitted by Hushaim, but he made no mention of the first portion.

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ← عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ← أَبِي إِسْحَقَ ← أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، ← هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ،

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ الْمُثَنَّی قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ کُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي قُبَّةٍ نَحْوًا مِنْ أَرْبَعِينَ رَجُلًا فَقَالَ أَتَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ تَکُونُوا رُبُعَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ قَالَ قُلْنَا نَعَمْ فَقَالَ أَتَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ تَکُونُوا ثُلُثَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ فَقُلْنَا نَعَمْ فَقَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ تَکُونُوا نِصْفَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَذَاکَ أَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ لَا يَدْخُلُهَا إِلَّا نَفْسٌ مُسْلِمَةٌ وَمَا أَنْتُمْ فِي أَهْلِ الشِّرْکِ إِلَّا کَالشَّعْرَةِ الْبَيْضَائِ فِي جِلْدِ الثَّوْرِ الْأَسْوَدِ أَوْ کَالشَّعْرَةِ السَّوْدَائِ فِي جِلْدِ الثَّوْرِ الْأَحْمَرِ

Abdullah b. Mas'ud reported: The Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) addressing us said: Aren't you pleased that you should constitute one-fourth of the inhabitants of Paradise? He (the narrator) said: We glorified (our Lord, i. e. we called aloud Allah-o Akbar, Allah is the Greatest). He, then, again said: Aren't you pleased that you should constitute one-third of the inhabitants of Paradise? He (the narrator) said: We glorified (our Lord) and he (the Holy Prophet) then again said: I hope that you would constitute half of the inhabitants of Paradise and I shall explain to you its (reason). The believers among the unbelievers would not be more than a white hair on (the body of a) black ox or a black hair on (the body of a) white ox.
