و حَدَّثَنَاه شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ بِإِسْنَادِ حَدِيثِ اللَّيْثِ مِثْلَ رِوَايَتِهِ

Safiyya bint Abu 'Ubaid reported on the authority of Hafsa or 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with thein) or from both of them that Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) said: It is not permissible for a woman believing in Allah and the Hereafter (or believing in Allah and His Messenger) that she should observe mourning for the dead beyond three days except in case of her husband.

و حَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو غَسَّانَ الْمِسْمَعِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَی بْنَ سَعِيدٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ نَافِعًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتَ عُمَرَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُحَدِّثُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ اللَّيْثِ وَابْنِ دِينَارٍ وَزَادَ فَإِنَّهَا تُحِدُّ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا

A hadith like this is transmitted on the authority of Nafi'.

و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَعْنَی حَدِيثِهِمْ

Safiyya bint Abu 'Ubaid reported that she heard Hafsa daughter of Umar (Allah be pleased with them), (and) wife of Allah's Prophet ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ), narrating a hadith like this from Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ), and she made this addition: She should abstain from adorning herself (in case of the death of her husband) for four months and ten days.

و حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ يَحْيَی وَأَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَی قَالَ يَحْيَی أَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا يَحِلُّ لِامْرَأَةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ أَنْ تُحِدَّ عَلَی مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ إِلَّا عَلَی زَوْجِهَا

Safiyya bint Abu 'Ubaid narrated this tradition of Allah's Prophet ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) on the authority of some wives of Allah's Apostle ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ )

و حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ حَفْصَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا تُحِدُّ امْرَأَةٌ عَلَی مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ إِلَّا عَلَی زَوْجٍ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا وَلَا تَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا إِلَّا ثَوْبَ عَصْبٍ وَلَا تَکْتَحِلُ وَلَا تَمَسُّ طِيبًا إِلَّا إِذَا طَهُرَتْ نُبْذَةً مِنْ قُسْطٍ أَوْ أَظْفَارٍ

A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: It is not permissible for a woman believing in Allah and the Hereafter to observe mourning on the dead for more than three (days), except in case of her husband.

و حَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ح و حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ کِلَاهُمَا عَنْ هِشَامٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ وَقَالَا عِنْدَ أَدْنَی طُهْرِهَا نُبْذَةً مِنْ قُسْطٍ وَأَظْفَارٍ

Umm `Atiyya (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) had said: A woman must not observe mourning for one who had died for more than three (days) except for four months and ten days in the case of her husband. And she must not wear a dyed garment except one of the types made of dyed yarn, or apply collyrium, or touch perfume except a little perfume or incense, when she has been purified after her courses.

و حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ حَفْصَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ کُنَّا نُنْهَی أَنْ نُحِدَّ عَلَی مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ إِلَّا عَلَی زَوْجٍ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا وَلَا نَکْتَحِلُ وَلَا نَتَطَيَّبُ وَلَا نَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا وَقَدْ رُخِّصَ لِلْمَرْأَةِ فِي طُهْرِهَا إِذَا اغْتَسَلَتْ إِحْدَانَا مِنْ مَحِيضِهَا فِي نُبْذَةٍ مِنْ قُسْطٍ وَأَظْفَارٍ

A hadith like this has been narrated on the authority of Hisham with the same chain of narrators but with a slight variation of words.
