أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّقَفِيُّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ: أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَأَلَهُ: إِذَا حَاصَرْتُمُ الْمَدِينَةَ كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُونَ؟ قَالَ: نَبْعَثُ الرَّجُلَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، وَنَصْنَعُ لَهُ هَنَةً مِنْ جُلُودٍ، قَالَ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ رُمِيَ بِحَجَرٍ؟ قَالَ: إِذًا يُقْتَلُ، قَالَ: فَلا تَفْعَلُوا، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنْ تَفْتَحُوا مَدِينَةً فِيهَا أَرْبَعَةُ آلافِ مُقَاتِلٍ بِتَضْيِيعِ رَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ.

أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّقَفِيُّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: حَاصَرْنَا تُسْتَرَ فَنَزَلَ الْهُرْمُزَانُ عَلَى حُكْمِ عُمَرَ، فَقَدِمْتُ بِهِ عَلَى عُمَرَ، فَلَمَّا انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ قَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: تَكَلَّمْ، قَالَ: كَلامَ حَيٍّ أَوْ كَلامَ مَيِّتٍ، قَالَ: تَكَلَّمْ، لا بَأْسَ. قَالَ: إِنَّا وَإِيَّاكُمْ مَعْشَرَ الْعَرَبِ مَا خَلَّى اللَّهُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ، وَكُنَّا نَتَعَبَّدُكُمْ وَنَقْتُلُكُمْ وَنُغْضِبُكُمْ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ اللَّهُ مَعَكُمْ لَمْ تَكُنْ لَنَا بِكُمْ يَدَانِ. فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: مَا تَقُولُ؟ . فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، تَرَكْتُ بَعْدِي عَدُوًّا كَثِيرًا وَشَوْكَةً شَدِيدَةً، فَإِنْ قَتَلْتَهُ يَيْئَسِ الْقَوْمُ الْحَيَاةَ، وَيَكُنْ أَشَدَّ لِشَوْكَتِهِمْ. فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: أَسْتَحْيِي قَاتِلَ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَمَجْزَأَةَ بْنِ ثَوْرٍ، فَلَمَّا خَشِيتُ أَنْ يَقْتُلَهُ قُلْتُ لَهُ: لَيْسَ إِلَى قَتْلِهِ سَبِيلٌ، قَدْ قُلْتَ لَهُ: تَكَلَّمْ لا بَأْسَ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: ارْتَشَيْتَ وَأَصَبْتَ مِنْهُ. فَقُلْتُ: وَاللَّهِ مَا ارْتَشَيْتُ وَلا أَصَبْتُ مِنْهُ، قَالَ: لِتَأْتِيَنِّي عَلَى مَا شَهِدْتَ بِهِ بِغَيْرِكَ، أَوْ لأَبْدَأَنَّ بِعُقُوبَتِكَ. قَالَ: فَخَرَجْتُ فَلَقِيتُ الزُّبَيْرَ بْنَ الْعَوَّامِ، فَشَهِدَ مَعِي، وَأَمْسَكَ عُمَرُ، وَأَسْلَمَ وَفَرَضَ لَهُ. أَخْرَجَ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ مِنْ كِتَابِ الأُسَارَى والْغُلُولِ.
