وَعَنْ عَطَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِیْ ھُرَ یْرَ ۃَ ؓ قَالَ: مَا مِنْ مَرَ ضِ یُصِیْبُنِیْ أَحَبَّ إِِلَيْ مِنَ الْحُمَّی لِأَ نَّھَا تَدْ خُلُ فِیْ کُلَّ عُضُوْ مِنَّیْ وَإِِنَّ اللہَ عَذَّ وَجَلَّ یُعْطِیْ کُلَّ عُضُوْ قِسْطَھُ مِنَ ا لْأَ جْرِ

Abu Hurayrah said that he did not like any illness more than fever because it went into each of his limbs. And, Allah grants each limb its share of reward.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ یُوْ سُفَ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْیَانُ عَنِ الْأَ عْمَشِ عَنْ أَ بِيْ وَا نِلِ عَنْ اَ بِيْ نُحَیْلَۃَ ؒ قِیْلَ لَھُ : ادْعُ اللہَ قَالَ: اللَّھُمَّ انْقُصْ مِنَ الْمَرَض ِوَلَا تَنْقُصْ مِنَ الْأَ جْرِ، فَقِیْلَ لَھُ : ادْعُ ، ادْعُ فَقَالَ : اللَّھُمَّ اجْعَلْنِیْ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّ بِیْنَ ، وَاجْعَلَ أُمَّیْ مِنْ الْحُوْرِ الْعَیْنِ

It is reported by Abu wail that someone said to Abu Nuhaylah (when he was ill), "Pray to Allah." So, he made this supplication, "Oh Allah, lessen the illness but do not diminish the reward." He was again asked to supplicate Allah and he said, "O Allah, let me be among the near ones and make my mother among the hoor (maids of Paradise)”.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّ د’‘ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا یَحْیَ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ أَبِيْ بَکْرِ قَالَ: حَدَّ ثَنِيْ عَطَاءُ بْنُ أَبِيْ رَ بَاحِ قَالَ: قَالَ لِيَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسِ ؓ: أَ لا أُرِیْکَ امْرَأَۃَ مِنْ أَھْلِ الْجَنَّۃِ؟ قُلْتُ : بَلَی ،قاَلَ : ھَذَہِ الْمَرْ أَۃُ السَّوْدَاءُ أَتَتِ النَّبِیَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ : إِنَّيْ أُصْرَعُ وَإِِنَّيْ أَتَکَشَفُ فَادِعُ اللہَ لِیْ قَالَ: ((إِنْ شِسْٔتِ صَبَرْتِ وَلَکِ الْجَنَّۃُ وَإِنْ شِسْٔتِ دَعَوْتُ اللہَ أَنْ یُعَا فِیَکَ)) فَقَالَتْ: بَلْ أَصْبَرُ فَقَالَتْ: إِِنَّيْ أَتَکَشَفُ فَا دِعُ اللہَ لِيْ أَنْ لَا أَتَکَشَفَ فَدَعَا لَھَا۔حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَّامِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُخْلَد’‘ عَنْ جَرِ یْجِ قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِيْ عَطَاء’‘ أَنَّھُ رَأَی أُمَّ زُفَرَ تِلْکَ الْمَرْأَۃُ طَوِ یْلَۃَ سَوْدَاءَ عَلَی سُلَّمِ الْکَعْبَۃِ

Ata bin Abu Rabah said that Ibn Abbas asked him if he would like him to show him a woman who would go to paradise. So, he said that he would certainly like (him to show him the woman). Ibn Abbas said to him. "This is a black woman who came to the Prophet and said to him, "Messenger of Allah, I am subject to fits and become uncovered, so make a supplication to Allah to cure me, "The Prophet (ﷺ) said to her, "If you endure it patiently, you will be rewarded with paradise, but if you wish I will make a supplication to Allah to cure you." The woman said, ’I shall endure it. But, (when I get fits) I become uncovered, make supplication to Allah that I may not become uncovered. So, he made a supplication for her."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا مَخْلَدٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ‏:‏ أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، أَنَّهُ رَأَى أُمَّ زُفَرَ، تِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةُ، طَوِيلَةً سَوْدَاءَ عَلَى سُلَّمِ الْكَعْبَةِ‏.قَالَ‏:‏ وَأَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، أَنَّ الْقَاسِمَ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يَقُولُ‏:‏ مَا أَصَابَ الْمُؤْمِنَ مِنْ شَوْكَةٍ فَمَا فَوْقَهَا، فَهُوَ كَفَّارَةٌ‏.‏‏

It is reported by Ibn Jurayj that Ata said to him, "I saw the woman, Umm Zufar, on the steps of the Kabah. (She was) a black woman, tall in height".Ayeshah, said that the Prophet said, "If a thorn pricks a Believer or he is hurt more than that then that is an expiation for his sins."

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْر’‘ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُاللہِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُاللہِ بْنُ عَبْدِالرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِاللہِ بْنِ مَوْ ھَبِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِيْ عَمَّيْ عُبَیْدُاللہِ بْنُ عَبْدِاللہِ بْنِ مَوْھَبِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ھُرَیْرَ ۃَ ؒ یَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللہِ ﷺ((مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ بُشَا کُ شَوْکَۃَّّ فِیْ الدُّنْیَا یَحْتَسِبُھَا إِِلَّا قُصَّ بِھَا مِنْ خَطَایَا ہُ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَۃِ))۔

Abu Hurayrah reported the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying, "if a thorn pricks a Muslim in this world and he hopes for the reward against it then Allah forgives him his sins on the day of Resurrection".

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِيْ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْأَ عْمَشُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنيْ أَبُوْ سُفْیَانَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِاللہِ ؒقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِیَّ ﷺ یَقُوْلُ: ((مَا مِنْ وَلَا مُوْمِنَۃٍ ،وَلَا مُسْلِمٍ، وَلَا مُسْلِمَۃٍ، یَمْرَضُ مَرَضًا إِلَّا قَصَّ اللہُ بِھِ عَنْھُ مِنْ خَطَایَاہُ))۔

It is narrated by Jabir that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, "If a believing man or a believing woman or a Muslim man or Muslim woman falls ill then Allah, the exalted, forgives them their sins (because of their illness)."

حَدَّثَنَا زَکَرِیَّا قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُوْ أُ سَامَۃَ عَنْ ھِشَامِ ، عَنْ أَبِیْہِ قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَعَبْدُاللہِ بْنُ الذُّبَیْرِ ؒ عَلَی أَسْمَاءَؒ قَبْلَ قَتْلِ عَبْدِاللہِ بِعَشْرِلَیَالِ –وَأَسْمَاءُ وَجِعَۃ’‘، فَقَالَ لَھَا عَبْدُاللہِ :کَیْفَ تَحِدِیْنَکِ؟

Hisham reported that his father ('Urwa ibn az-Zubayr) said, "'Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr and I went to visit Asma' ten nights before 'Abdullah was killed. Asma' was in pain and 'Abdullah asked her, 'How are you feeling?' 'In pain,' she replied. He said, 'I am near death.' She said, 'Perhaps you desire my death and that is the reason you desire it? Do not do that. By Allah, I do not want to die until I reach one of the two ends: either you will be killed and I will leave you to Allah or you will win and I will be content. Beware of having your portion presented to you and then you do not agree with it. Accept it, even though you dislike death."

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِیْسَی قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُاللہِ بْنُ وَھْبِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَ نِيْ ھِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدِ، عَنْ زَیْدِبْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَا ءِ بْنِ یَسَارِ، عَنْ أَبِيْ سَعِیْدِ الْخُدْرِیْ ؒ أَنَّہُ دَخَلَ عَلَی رَسُوْلِ اللہِ ﷺ وَھُوَ مَوْ عُوْک’‘ عَلَیْہِ قَطِیْفَۃ’‘ فَوْ ضَعَ یَدَہُ عَلَیْہِ، فَوَجَدَ حَرَارَتَھَا فَوْقَ الْقَطِیْفَۃِ ،فَقَالَ أَبُوْ سَعِیْدِ : مَا أَشَدَّ حُمَّاکَ یَارَسُوْلَ اللہِ ! قَالَ: ((إِنَّا کَذََلِکَ یَشْتَدُّ عَلَیْنَا الْبَلَاءُ، وَیُضَاعَفُ لَنَا الْأَجْرُ))، فَقَالَ : یَارَسُولَ اللہِ!أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَشَدُّبَلَاً؟ قَالَ: ((الْأَنْبِیَاُ ثُمَّ الصَّالِحُوْنَ وَقَدْ کَانَ أَحَدُھُمْ یُبْتِلَی بِالْفَقْرِ حَتَّی مَایَجِدْ إِِلَّا الْعَبَادَ ۃُ بُحَوِّبُھَا فَیَلْبَسُھَا، وَیُبْتِلَی بِالْقُمَّلِ حَتَّی یَقْتُلُہُ وَلَّاحَدُھُمْ کَانَ أَشَدَّ فَرَحًا بِالْبَلَاءِ مِنْ أَحَدِکُمْ بِالْعَطَاءِ))۔

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported that he came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while he had a fever. He had a covering over him. He placed his hand on him and discovered that it was hot above the covering. Abu Sa'id exclaimed, 'How hot your fever is, Messenger of Allah!' He said, 'We are like that. The affliction is hard on us, but the reward is doubled for us.' He said, 'Messenger of Allah, which people have the greatest affliction?' He replied, 'The Prophets, and then the righteous. One of them was tested by poverty to such an extent that he could only find a robe to cover himself with and he wore it. Another was tested by fleas until they killed him. They have greater joy in affliction than one of you has in gifts."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُاللہِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْیَانُ، عَنِ، ابْنِ الْمُنْکَدِرِ ، سمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِاللہِؒ یَقُولُ : مَرِضْتُ مَرَضَا فَأَتَانِيْ النَّبِیُّﷺ یَعُوْدُ نِیْ وَأَبُوْبَکْرِ، وَھُمَا مَاشِیَانِ، فَوَجَدَانِیْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيَّ، فَتَوَضَّاالنَّبِیُّ ﷺ ثُمَّ صَبَّ وَضُوْءَہُ عَلَیَّ فَأَفَقْتُ فَإِِذَا النَّبِیُّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ : یَارَسُوْلَ اللہِ!کَیْفَ أَصْنَعَ فِیْ مَالیْ؟کَیْفَ أَقْضِیْ فِیْ مَالِیْ؟ فَلَمْ یُجَبْيِْ بِشَيْ ٍحَتَّی نَزَلَتْ اَیَۃُ الْمِیْرَاثِ۔ بَابٌ:عِیَادَۃُ الصَبْیَانِ

Jabir ibn 'Abdullah said, "I was ill, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came with Abu Bakr to visit me. They came on foot. They found that I had fainted, so the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did wudu' and then poured his wudu' water on me. I came to and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was there. I asked, 'Messenger of Allah, what should I do with my property? Give me a judgement regarding my property.' He did not give me any answer until the ayat of inheritance was revealed."

حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاج’‘ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّاد’‘، عَنْ عَاصِمِ الْا َٔحْوَلِ، عَنْ أَبِيْ عثُمْاَنَ النَّھْدِیَّ، عَنْ أُسَامَۃَ بْنِ زَیْدِ ؒ أَنَّ صَبِیًایِابْنَۃِ رَسُوْلِ اللہِ ﷺ ثَقُلَ فَبَعَتُ أُمُّہُ إِلَی النَّبِیُّ ﷺ أَنَّ وَلَدِیْ فِیْ الْمَوْتِ ،فَقَالَ لِلرَّسُوْلِ :((اِذْھَبْ ،فَقُلْ لَھَا:إِنَّ لِلَّھِ مَاأَخَزَ ،وَلَھُ مَاأَعْطَی، وَکُلُّ شَیْ ءٍعِنْدَہُ إِِلَی أَجْلٍ مُسَمًّی ،فَلْتَصْبِرْوَلْتَحْسِبْ ))، فَرَ جَع َالرَّسُوْلُ فَأَخْبَرَھَا، فَبَعَثَتْ إِلَیْہِ تُقْسِمُ عَلَیْہِ لَمَاجَاءَ، فَقَامَ النَّبِیُّ ﷺ فِيْ نَفَرِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِہِ ،فِیْھِمْ سَعْدُبْنُ عُبَادَۃَ، فَأَ خَدَالنَّبِیُّ ﷺ الصَّبِیَّ فَوَ ضَعَہُ بَیْنَ ثَنْدُوَ تَیْہِ وَلِصَدْرِہِ قَعْقَعَۃ’‘ کَقَعْقَعَۃِ الشَّنَّۃِ، فَدَ مَعَتْ عَیْنَا رَسُوْلِ اللہِ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَعْد’‘ : أَتَبْکِیْ وَأَنْتَ رَسُوْلُ اللہِ ؟فَقَال َ: ((إِِنَّمَا أَبْکِيْ رَحْمَۃًً لَھَا، إِِنَّ اللہَ لاَ یَرْحَمُ مِنْ عِبَادِہِ إِِلَّا الرُّحَمَاءَ))

Usama ibn Zayd reported that a child of one of the daughters of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was very ill. His mother sent word to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to say that her child was dying. He told the messenger, "Go and tell her that to Allah belongs what He takes and what He gives. Everything is with Him until a stated term. She should be patient and leave him to Allah." The messenger went back and told her. She sent to him again to plead with him to come. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, got up with a group of his Companions, including Sa'd ibn 'Ubada. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took the child and put him on his breast. The child was shaking like a leaf against his chest. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wept and Sa'd said, "Do you weep, Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "I weep out of compassion for the child. Allah only shows mercy to those of His slaves who are merciful."

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ وَاقِعِ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ضَمْرَۃُ عَنْ إِبْرَھِیْمَ بْنِ أَ بِيْ عَبْلَۃَ قَالَ: مَرِضَتِ امْرَأَتِیْ، فَکُنْتُ أَ جِیْ إِِلَی أُمَّ الدَّرْدَا فَتَقُوْلُ لِیْ : کَیْفَ أَھْلُکَ؟ فَاٌَقُوْلُ لَھَا : مَرْضَی فَتَدْ عُوْ لِيْ بِطَعَامِ، فَآکُلُ ثُمَّ عُدْتُ فَفَعَلَتْ ذَلِکَ، فَجِسْٔتُھَا مَرَّۃُفَقَالَتْ: کَیْفَ؟قُلْتُ: قَدْ تَمَا ثَلُوْا فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّمَاکُنْتُ أَدْعُوْ لَکَ بِطَعَامِ إِذْکُنْتَ تُخْبِرُ نَا عَنْ أَ ھْلِکَ أَنَّھُمْ مَرْ ضَی، فَأَمَّا إِذْتَمَا ثَلُوْا، فَلَا نَدْعُوْ لَکَ بِشَيٍْ

Ibrahim ibn Abi 'Abla said, "My wife was ill and I used to go to Umm ad-Darda'. She asked me, 'How's your family?' 'Ill,' I replied. She called for some food for me and I ate. Then I went back and she did the same thing again. I visited her yet again and she asked, 'How are they?' 'They are almost well,' I replied. She said, 'I called for good for you when you told me that your family were ill. Since they are almost well know, we will not call for anything for you.'"

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِالْعَذِیْذِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَرْ وَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِیَۃَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا یَذِیْدُ بْنُ کَیْسَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيْ حَارِمِ، عَنْ أَبِيْ ھُرَيْرَۃَ ؒقَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْل ُللہ ِﷺ : ((مَنْ أَصْبَحَ الْیَوْمَ مِنْکُمْ صَانِمًا؟)) قَالَ أَبُوْبَکْرِؓ أَنَا۔قَالَ: ((مَنْ عَادَ مِنْکُمْ الْیَوْمَ مَرِیْضًا؟)) قَالَ أَبُوْبَکْؓرِؓأَنَا۔قَالَ: ((مَنْ شَھِدَ مِنْکُمْ الْیَوْمَ جَنَازَۃً؟))قَالَ أَبُوْبَکْرِؓ أَنَا: قَالَ:((مَنْ أَطْعَمَ الْیَوْمَ مِسْکِیْنًا ؟)) قَالَ أَبُوْبَکْر ِؓ: أَنَا۔قَالَ مَرْوَانُ : بَلَخَنِيْ أَنَّ النَّبِیَّ ﷺقَالَ: ((مَا اجْتَمَعَ ھَذِہِ الْخِصَالُ فِيْ رَجُلٍ فِیْ یَوْمٍ إِلَّا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّۃَ))۔

Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, went to visit a bedouin when he was ill and said, "Do not worry. It is a purification if Allah so wills." He said that the bedouin said, "It is a fever which boils in an old man and will cause him to visit the graves." "It is a blessing then," he concluded.
