It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: az-Zubair, al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad and I went out to our property in Khaibar to take care of it. When we got there, we dispersed, each man going to his property. I was attacked under cover of night when I was sleeping on my bed and my arms were dislocated at the elbows. In the morning, my two companions were called and they came and asked me: Who did this to you? I said: I do not know. They treated my arms then they brought me to 'Umar who said: This is the work of some Jews. Then he stood and addressed the people, and said: O people, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) made a deal with the Jews of Khaibar on the basis that we could expel them whenever we want. They have attacked 'Abdullah bin 'Umar and dislocated his arms, as you heard about their attack on the Ansari before him. We do not doubt that they are the ones who did it, as we have no other enemy but them. Whoever has property in Khaibar, let him go there, for I am going to expel the Jews. Then he expelled them.

Husain bin 'Abdullah bin 'Ubaiduliah bin 'Abbas and Dawood bin 'Ali bin 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas narrated, one of them adding to the report of his companion, that a man called out to Ibn 'Abbas, when the people were around him; Are you following the Sunn ah with regard to this nabcedh, or is it easier for you than milk and honey? Ibn 'Abbas (PBUH) said: The Prophet (PBUH) came to 'Abbas and said: "Give us something to drink." He said: This nabeedh is something that has been steeped and soaked; shouldn't we give you milk or honey? He said: "Give us what you give to others." So two skins filled with nabeedh were brought to the Prophet who had his Companions of the Muhajireen and Ansar with him. When the Prophet (PBUH) drank, he stopped drinking before his thirst was quenched. He raised his head and said: "You have done well. This is what you should do." Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The approval of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was dearer to me than seeing these mountain passes flowing with milk and honey.

It was narrated from Ibn Mas' ood that on the day of Uhud, the women came behind the Muslim army, finishing off the rounded mushrikeen. If I had to swear on that day, I would have hoped that my oath would stand if i were to swear that there was no one among us who wanted Worldly gain, until Allah (PBUH) revealed the words: "Among you are some that desire this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then He made you flee from them (your enemy), that He might test you" [Aal 'Imraan 3:152]. When the companions of the prophet (PBUH) disobeyed orders and went against what they had been commanded to do, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was left alone with nine people, seven of the Ansaar and two men from Quraysh, and he was the tenth. When the enemy wore him down, he said: "May Allah have mercy on a man who pushes them back from us." One of the Ansaari men got up and fought for a while until he was killed. Then when they wore him down again, he said: "May Allah have mercy on a man who pushes them back from us," and he kept saying that until all seven had been killed. Then the Prophet said to his two companions (who were left): "We have not been fair to our companions." Then Abu Sufyaan came and said: Exalted be Hubal. the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Say; Allah is more exalted and more glorious!" So they said; Allah is more exalted and more Slorious! Abu Sufyaan said: We have 'Uzza and you have no 'Uzza. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Say: Allah is our protector and the disbelievers have no protector." Then Abu Sufyaan said: A day in return for the day of Badr; a day for us and a day against us; a day when we are disappointed and a day when we rejoice; Hanzalah for Hanzalah, So and so for So and so... The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "They are not the same; our slain are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision, whereas your slain are in the Fire, being punished-" Abu Sufyaan said: There have been some mutilations among the dead; it happened without our consent. I did not command it and i did not prohibit it; it is neither pleased or upset i me. So they looked and they found that Hamzah's belly had been cut open; Hind took his liver and chewed it, but she could not swallow it. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said; Did she eat any of it?" They said: No. He said Allah would not allow any part of Hamzah to enter the Fire." The Messenger of Allah placed Hamzah (on the ground} to offer the (funeral) prayer for him, and an Ansaari man was brought and placed beside him. Then he the prayer for him, and the Ansaari was taken away and Hamzah was left. Then they brought another and placed him beside Hamzah and he offered the funeral prayer for him, then (that man) was taken away and Hamzah was left, until he had offered the funeral prayer for him geventy times.

Some men of the Ansaar came in to greet him and Suhayb was with him. I asked Suhayb: What would the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) do when he was greeted? He said; He would gesture with his hand Sufyaan said: I said to a man: Ask Zayd: Did you hear it from 'Abdullah? And I was too nervous to ask him myself. It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: I was eager to ask ‘Umar about the two wives of the Prophet (PBUH) concerning whom Allah said, "If you two (wives of the Prophet (PBUH)) turn in repentance to Allah, (it will be better for you), your hearts are indeed so inclined (to oppose what the Prophet (PBUH) likes)" [at-Tahreem 66:4], until 'Umar went for Hajj and I went with him. When we were partway there, 'Umar turned aside and I turned aside with him, bringing the jug. He relieved himself, then he came to me and I poured water onto his hands, and he did wudoo' . I said: O Ameer al-Mu'mineen, who are the two wives of the Prophet (PBUH) of whom Allah said: "If you two (wives of the Prophet (PBUH) turn in repentance to Allah, (it will be better for you), your hearts are indeed so inclined (to oppose what the Prophet (PBUH) likes)" [at-Tahreem 66:4]? 'Umar said: How strange of you, O lbn 'Abbas! [az-Zuhri said: By Allah, he did not like the question, but he did not conceal anything.] He said: They were Hafsah and 'A'ishah. Then he started to narrate the hndeeth and said: We people of Quraish were a people who dominated women, but when we came to Madina h we found a people who were dominated by their women, and our women started to leam from their women. My house was among Banu Umayyah bin Zaid in al-'Awali, One day I got angry with my wife, and she argued with me. I did not like her to argue with me, but she said: Do you not like me to argue with you? By Allah, the wives of the Prophet (PBUH) argue with him, and one of them will forsake him all day until night comes. I went and entered upon Hafsah, and I said: Do you argue with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) ?. She said: Yes. I said: Does one of you forsake him all day until night comes? She said: Yes. I said: Any one of you who does that is doomed and lost. Does any one of you feel assured that Allah will not be angry with her because of the anger of His Messenger (PBUH), for then she will be doomed? Do not argue with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and do not ask him for anything. Ask me for whatever you want. And do not be misled by the fact that your neighbour is more beautiful than you and more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) than you - referring to 'A'ishah. And 'Umar said: i had a neighbour among the Ansar. We used to take turns to go down to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). He would go down one day and I would go down the next. He would bring me the news of the Revelation and other things, and i would do likewise. We were saying that Ghassan were shoeing their horses to attack us. My friend went down, then he came to me at night and knocked on my door, then he called out to me. I went out to him and he said: Something terrible has happened! I said: What? Have Ghassan come? He said: No, it is more terrible than that and worse. The Prophet (PBUH) has divorced his wives! I said: Hafsah is doomed and lost! I thought that this would happen. Then when I had prayed Fajr, I got dressed, then I went down and entered upon Hafsah, who was weeping. I said: Has the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) divorced you? She said: I do not know. He has secluded himself in this loft. I went to a black slave of his and said: Ask for permission for 'Umar to enter. He went in, then he came out to me and said: I mentioned you to him but he did not say anything. I went away and came to the minbar, where I sat down. By it was a group of people, some of whom were weeping. I sat for a little while, then I could not bear it any longer, so I went to the slave and said: Ask for permission for 'Umar to enter. He went in, then he came out to me and said: I mentioned you to him but he did not say anything. I turned to leave, then the slave called me and said: Go in, he has given you permission. So I went in and greeted the Messenger of Allah with salam . He was resting on a reed mat that had left marks on his side. I said: O Messenger of Allah, have you divorced your wives? He looked up at me and said, "No." I said: Allah Akbarl If you had seen us, O Messenger of Allah, we Quraish were a people who dominated women, but when we came to Madinah we found a people who were dominated by their women, and our women started to leam from their women. I got angry with my wife one day, and she started to argue with me. I did not like her to argue with me, but she said: Do you not like me to argue with you? By Allah, the wives of the Prophet argue with him, and one of them will forsake him all day until night comes. I said: Any one of them who does that is doomed and lost. Does one of them feel assured that Allah will not be angry with her because of the anger of His Messenger (PBUH), then she will be doomed? The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) smiled. I said; O Messenger of Allah, I entered upon Hafsah and I said: Do not be misled by the fact that your neighbour (i.e 'Aa'ishah) is more beautiful than you and more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) than you. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) smiled again. I said: O Messenger of Allah, may I speak to you freely? He said: "Yes”. So I sat down and looked around the room, and by Allah, I did not see anything in it to please the eye except three hides. i said: Pray to Allah, O Messenger of Allah, to make life prosperous for your ummah, for He has made life prosperous for the Persians and Romans, but they do not worship Allah, may He be glorified and exalted. He sat up straight and said: "Are you doubting, O son of al-Khattab? They are people whose good things have been hastened for them in this world." I said: Pray for forgiveness for me, O Messenger of Allah. He had sworn that he would not enter upon them for a month, because he was so annoyed with them, until Allah rebuked him.

Salim said: I heard 'Abdullah bin 'Umar say: 'Umar said: Send me a doctor to examine this wound of mine. So they sent for an Arab doctor who gave 'Umar nabeedh, and the nabeedh was mixed with blood when it came out of the stab wound that was beneath his navel. I [Ibn 'Umar] called another doctor from among the Ansar, from the tribe of Banu Mu'awiyah. He gave him milk to drink and it came out of the wound solid and white. The doctor said to him: O Ameer al-Mu'mineen, give your final instructions. 'Umar said: The man from Banu Mu'awiyah has spoken the truth. If you had said anything else I would not have believed you. The people wept for him when they heard that, but he said: Do not weep for us; whoever wants to weep, let him leave. Did you not hear what the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said? He said: "The deceased is tormented by his family's weeping for him." Because of that, 'Abdullah did not approve of any weeping if one of his sons or anyone else died.
