سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَلَمَۃَ بْنَ عَبدِالرَّحْمَنِ، یَقُولُ: قَدِمَ مُعَاوِیَۃُ أَبِی سُفْیَانَ الْمَدِینَۃَ، فَبَیْنَا ھُوَ عَلَی الْمِنْبَرِ إِذْ قَالَ: یَا کَثِیرُ بْنَ الصَّلْتِ، اذْھَبْ إِلَی عَائِشَۃَ فَسَلْھَا عَنْ صَلاۃِ رَسُولُ اللہُ صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، قَالَ أَبُو سَلَمَۃَ:فَذَھَبْتُ مَعَہُ إِلَی عَائِشَۃَ، وَیَعَثَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَبْدَ اللہِ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلِ مَعَنَا، فَأَتَی عَائِشَۃَ رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْھَا فَسَأَلَھَا عَنْ ذَلِکَ، فَقَالَتْ لَہُ: اذْھَبْ فَسَل أُمَّ سَلَمَۃَ، فَذَھَبْتُ مَعَہُ إِلَی أُمِّ سَلَمَۃَ فَسَأَلَھَا قَالَتْ أَمُّ سَلَمَۃَ:دَخَلَ عَلَیَّ رَسُولُ اللہُ صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْہِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ یَوْمِ بَعْدَالْعَصْرِ، فَصَلَّی عِنْدِی رَکْعَتَیْنِ لَمْ أَکُنْ أَرَاہُ یُصَلِّھِمَا،فَقَالَ:((إِنِّی کُنْتُ أُصَلَی رَکْعَتَیْنِ بَعْدَ الظُّھْرِ، وَإِنَّہُ قَدِمَ عَلَیَّ وَفْدُ بَنِی تَمِیمٍ أَوْ صَدَقَۃٌ فَشَغَلُونِی عَنْھُمَا فَھُمَا ھَاتَانِ الرَّکْعَتَانِ))
