حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَمَّالُ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْأَزْهَر قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْکٍ عَنْ عِيسَی بْنِ أَبِي عِيسَی الْحَنَّاطِ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْحَسَدُ يَأْکُلُ الْحَسَنَاتِ کَمَا تَأْکُلُ النَّارُ الْحَطَبَ وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ کَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَائُ النَّارَ وَالصَّلَاةُ نُورُ الْمُؤْمِنِ وَالصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ مِنْ النَّارِ
ابن ماجہ · Hadith 4210
It was narrated from Anas that Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H Envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood, and charity extinguishes bad deeds as water extinguishes fire. Prayer is the light of the believer and fasting is a shield against the Fire."
