حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ کَانَ يَکُونُ فِي الْأُمَمِ مُحَدَّثُونَ فَإِنْ يَکُ فِي أُمَّتِي أَحَدٌ فَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ مُحَدَّثُونَ يَعْنِي مُفَهَّمُونَ

Narrated 'Aishah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Among the nations, there used to be Muhaddathun (those who were given understanding), and if there were one in my nation, it would be 'Umar bin Al-Khattab.
