حَدَّثَنَا مُحْرِزُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْعَدَنِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ فِي سَفِينَةٍ فِيهَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيُّ فَحَانَتْ صَلَاةٌ مِنْ الصَّلَوَاتِ فَأَمَرْنَاهُ أَنْ يَؤُمَّنَا وَقُلْنَا لَهُ إِنَّکَ أَحَقُّنَا بِذَلِکَ أَنْتَ صَاحِبُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَبَی فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَمَّ النَّاسَ فَأَصَابَ فَالصَّلَاةُ لَهُ وَلَهُمْ وَمَنْ انْتَقَصَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ شَيْئًا فَعَلَيْهِ وَلَا عَلَيْهِمْ
ابن ماجہ · Hadith 983
It was narrated from Abu Ali Al-Hamdáni that he went out in a ship in which ‘Uqbah bin Amir Al’-Juhani was present. The time for prayer came, and we told to lead us in prayer and said to him: “You are the most deserving of that you were the Companion of the Messenger of Muhammad P.B.U.H But he refused and “I heard the Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H say: ‘Whoever leads the people and gets it right, the prayer will be for him and for them ,but if he falls short, then will be counted against turn not against them.” (Sahih)
