أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بَکَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ابْنِ إِسْحَقَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قُلْتُ أَيْ عَمِّ حَدِّثْنِي عَمَّا قَالَ لَکَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي إِنِّي قَدْ کُنْتُ أَجْمَعْتُ عَلَی أَنْ أَجْتَهِدَ اجْتِهَادًا شَدِيدًا حَتَّی قُلْتُ لَأَصُومَنَّ الدَّهْرَ وَلَأَقْرَأَنَّ الْقُرْآنَ فِي کُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ فَسَمِعَ بِذَلِکَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَتَانِي حَتَّی دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ فِي دَارِي فَقَالَ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّکَ قُلْتَ لَأَصُومَنَّ الدَّهْرَ وَلَأَقْرَأَنَّ الْقُرْآنَ فَقُلْتُ قَدْ قُلْتُ ذَلِکَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَلَا تَفْعَلْ صُمْ مِنْ کُلِّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أَقْوَی عَلَی أَکْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ قَالَ فَصُمْ مِنْ الْجُمُعَةِ يَوْمَيْنِ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسَ قُلْتُ فَإِنِّي أَقْوَی عَلَی أَکْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِکِ قَالَ فَصُمْ صِيَامَ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام فَإِنَّهُ أَعْدَلُ الصِّيَامِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ يَوْمًا صَائِمًا وَيَوْمًا مُفْطِرًا وَإِنَّهُ کَانَ إِذَا وَعَدَ لَمْ يُخْلِفْ وَإِذَا لَاقَی لَمْ يَفِرَّ
سنن نسائی · Hadith 2399
It was narrated that ‘Abdullah said: “The Messenger of ….- entered my apartment said: ‘I have been told that you all night (in prayer) and fast fl day.’ I said: ‘Yes (I do).’ He dd: ‘Do not do that. Sleep and nd (in prayer); fast and break !our fast. For your eyes have a – t over you, your body has a t over you, your wife has a right ver you, your guest has a right ver you, and your friend has a over you. I hope that you will nave a long life and that it will be ufficient for you to fast three days f each month. That is fasting for a fetime, because a good deed is to ten like it.’ I said: ‘I feel e to do more.’ I was strict, so I s dealt with strictly. He said: ast three days each week.’ I said: am able to do more than that.’ I was strict, so I was dealt with strictly. He said: ‘Observe the fast of the Prophet of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, Dawud, peace be upon him.’ I said: ‘What was the fast of DawudT He said: ‘Half of a lifetime.” (Sahih).
