حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ سُلَيْکًا جَائَ فَذَکَرَ نَحْوَهُ زَادَ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَی النَّاسِ قَالَ إِذَا جَائَ أَحَدُکُمْ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَکْعَتَيْنِ يَتَجَوَّزْ فِيهِمَا
سنن ابودوٗد · Hadith 1117
This tradition has also been transmitted through a different chain of narrators by Jabir bin Abdullah. This version adds: He (the Prophet) turned to the people and said: When one of you comes (on Friday) while the imam is preaching, he should pray two rak'ahs and make them short.
