أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حِبَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ الْهِلَالَ فَصُومُوا وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْکُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا شَعْبَانَ ثَلَاثِينَ إِلَّا أَنْ تَرَوْا الْهِلَالَ قَبْلَ ذَلِکَ ثُمَّ صُومُوا رَمَضَانَ ثَلَاثِينَ إِلَّا أَنْ تَرَوْا الْهِلَالَ قَبْلَ ذَلِکَ
سنن نسائی · Hadith 2134
It was narrated from Ribi’i bin Hirash, from Hudhajfah bin Al Yaman, that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “Do not anticipate the month until you see the crescent before it, or you complete the number of days. Then fast until you see the new moon, or you complete the number of days.” (Sahih)
