حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ فِي آخِرِ حَيَاتِهِ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَامَ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتُمْ لَيْلَتَكُمْ هَذِهِ عَلَى رَأْسِ مِائَةِ سَنَةٍ مِنْهَا لَا يَبْقَى مِمَّنْ هُوَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْأَرْضِ أَحَدٌ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَوَهِلَ النَّاسُ فِي مَقَالَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تِلْكَ فِيمَا يَتَحَدَّثُونَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيثِ عَنْ مِائَةِ سَنَةٍ وَإِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَبْقَى الْيَوْمَ مِمَّنْ هُوَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْأَرْضِ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَنْخَرِمَ ذَلِكَ الْقَرْنُ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5617
Saaliin ibn 'Abdullah and Abu Bakr ibn Sulaymaan narrated that 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) led us in Isha' prayer one night at the end of his life, then when he had said the salaam he stood up and said: "Have you seen this night of yours? One hundred years from now, there will no one left who is on the face of the earth." Ibn 'Umar said: The people did not understand these words of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) about one hundred years, and they interpreted the hadeeth wrongly; all that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said was: "One hundred years from now, there will no one left who is on the face of the earth today” meaning that that generation would come to an end.
