حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فَقُمْتُ وَتَرَكْتُ رَجُلًا عِنْدَهُ مِنْ كِنْدَةَ فَأَتَيْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ قَالَ فَجَاءَ الْكِنْدِيُّ فَزِعًا فَقَالَ جَاءَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ أَحْلِفُ بِالْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ لَا وَلَكِنْ احْلِفْ بِرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَإِنَّ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَحْلِفُ بِأَبِيهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَحْلِفْ بِأَبِيكَ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ حَلَفَ بِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ

It was narrated that Sa'eed ibn 'Ubaydah said: I was with Ibn 'Umar, and I got up and left a man from Kindah with him, and I came to Sa'eed ibn al-Musayyab. Then the Kindi man came in a panic and said: A man came to Ibn 'Umar and said: Can I swear by the Ka'bah? He said: No; rather swear by the Lord of the Ka'bah, for 'Umar used to swear by his father, and the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Do not swear by your father; the one who shears by anything other than Allah has associated something with Him (shirk)."
