حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ يَحْيَى وَعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ وَمُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا جَدَّ بِهِ السَّيْرُ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ وَكَانَ فِي بَعْضِ حَدِيثِهِمَا إِلَى رُبُعِ اللَّيْلِ أَخَّرَهُمَا جَمِيعًا
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5516
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that when the Prophet (PBUH) wanted to hasten in his travel he would put Maghrib and 'lsha' together. In some of their reports it says that he would delay them until one quarter of the night had passed, then put them together."
