حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ أَمَرَ رَجُلًا إِذَا أَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا اللَّهُمَّ أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ عُمَرَ فَقَالَ مِنْ خَيْرٍ مِنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5502
It was narrated from 'Abd-Allah ibn 'Umar that he told a man when he went to bed, to say: 0 Allah, You have created my soul and it is for you to take it in death. Its death and its life are in your hand. If you cause it to live then protect it and if you cause it to die then forgive it. O Allah, I ask you to keep me safe and sound, A man said: Did you hear that from 'Umar? He said: From one who is better than 'Umar, from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).
