مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5420
Ibn Abi Nujayh said: I heard my father narrate that a man asked Ibn 'Umar about fasting on the day of 'Arafah. He said: We went out (on Hajj) with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and he did not fast it, and (we went out) with Abu Bakr, and he did not fast it, and (we went out) with 'Umar, and he did not fast it, and (we went out) with 'Uthmaan, ard he did not fast it. I do not fast it or instruct you to do so, and I do not forbid you to do that. If you wish, fast it, and if you wish, do not fast it.
