مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5375

It was narrated that Sa'd ibn 'Ubaadah said: Muhammad al-Kindi and i sat with 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, then i got up and left him and I sat with Sa'eed ibn al-Musayyab. Then my friend came, and he had turned yellow and his colour had changed. He said: Get up and come with me. I said: Wasn't I sitting with you just now? Sa'eed said: Get up and go with your companion. So I got up and went with him and he said: Have you not heard what Ibn Umar said? I said: What did he say? He said: A man came to him and said: O Abu 'Abd ar-Rahmaan, is there any sin on me I swear by the Ka'bah? He said: would you want to swear by the Ka'bah? If you want to swear by the Ka'bah, then swear by the lord of the Ka'bah. When 'Umar swore an oath he would say: No, by my father. He swore this oath one day in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)`, and the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Do not swear by your father or by anything other than Allah, for whoever swears by somethin g other than Allah has committed an act of shirk "
