حَدَّثَنَا يَعْمَرُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا مَرَّ بِالْحِجْرِ قَالَ لَا تَدْخُلُوا مَسَاكِنَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا إِلَّا أَنْ تَكُونُوا بَاكِينَ أَنْ يُصِيبَكُمْ مَا أَصَابَهُمْ وَتَقَنَّعَ بِرِدَائِهِ وَهُوَ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5342
It was narrated from az-Zuhri; Saalim ibn 'Abdullah told me, from his father, that the Prophet (PBUH) said when he passed by al-Hijr (the Rocky Tract) : “Do not enter the dwellings of those who did wrong, unless you are weeping, lest there befall you what befell them.” And he covered his head with his cloak whilst he was on his mount.
