قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَثَلُ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ كَمَثَلِ صَاحِبِ الْإِبِلِ الْمُعَقَّلَةِ إِنْ عَاهَدَ عَلَيْهَا أَمْسَكَهَا وَإِنْ أَطْلَقَهَا ذَهَبَتْ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5315
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "The likeness of the companion of the Qur'an is that of (the owner of) a hobbled camel; if he remains vigilant he will keep it, but if lie lets it go it will disappear."
