حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ وَيَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَرَمَى بِهِ وَقَالَ لَنْ أَلْبَسَهُ أَبَدًا قَالَ يَزِيدُ فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5249
It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) acquired a ring of gold, and the people acquired rings of gold, then he threw it away and said: "I shall never wear it again." Yazeed said: And the people threw away their rings.
