Ibn Abi Nujayh narrated that his father said: Ibn 'Umar was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafah and he said: I did Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and he did not fast it; I did Hajj with Abu Bakr and he did not fast it; I did Hajj with 'Umar and he did not fast it; and I did Hajj with 'Uthmaan and he did not fast it. I do not fast it or instruct others to do so, and I do not forbid it.
