مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5095
It was narrated that Abdullah ibn 'Umar said: 'Umar Ibn al-Khattaab saw a garment of silk in the marketplace. He said: 0 Messenger of Allah, why don’t you buy this garment (to wear when you meet) the delegations? He said: "Silk - or this - is only worn by one who has no share in the Hereafter." He said: Later on, some garments like it were brought to the Prophet (PBUH) and he sent one of them to 'Umar. He got upset and he came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: O Prophet of Allah, you sent this to me when you said what I heard: "Silk is only worn by one who has no share in the Hereafter"?! He said: "I did not send it to you for you to wear it; rather I sent it to you so that you could earn some money (by selling it)." Saalim said: Because of this hadeeth, Ibn 'Umar disliked silk embroidery on garments.
