It was narrated that Naafi' said: When the people revoked their allegiance to Yazeed ibn Mu'aawiyah, Ibn 'Umar gathered his family together, then he recited the tashahhud, then he said: To proceed: we have sworn allegiance to the man in accordance with the teachings of Allah and His Messenger, and I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: "The betrayer will have a banner set up for him on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said: This is the betrayal of So and so." And indeed one of the greatest of betrayals - apart from associating anything with Allah (PBUH) - is for a man to swear allegiance to another in accordance with the teachings of Allah and His Messenger, then to break that oath of allegiance. No one among you should revoke his allegiance to Yazeed, and no one among you should even think of doing so, because that could be the end (of ties) between me and him.
