حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَيُوتِرُ بِرَكْعَةٍ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5049
It was narrated from Anas ibn Sireen, that he heard Ibn 'Umar say that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to pray at night two (rak'ahs) by two, and he would pray Witr with one rak'ah at the end of the night.
