حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي فَرْوَةَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ سَمِعْتُ عَوْنًا الْأَزْدِيَّ قَالَ كَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْمَرٍ أَمِيرًا عَلَى فَارِسَ فَكَتَبَ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ الصَّلَاةِ فَكَتَبَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْهِمْ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5042
Awn al-Azdi said: Umar ibn 'Ubaydullah ibn Ma’mar was the governor of Persia.He wrote to Ibn Umar asking him about the prayer Ibn Umar wrote back saying that the when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) departed from his family, he would pray two rak'ahs, until he came back to them.
