حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ خُبَيْبٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ السَّفَرِ يَعْنِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَمَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ سِتَّ سِنِينَ مِنْ إِمْرَتِهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى أَرْبَعًا
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 5041
It was narrated that Ibn Umar said: We went out (in Mina) with the messenger of Allah (PBUH) and he used to pray the prayerof the traveller that two rak'ahs and with Abu Bakr and Umar and Uthmaan, for the first (six) years of his caliphate then he prayed four rak’ahs.
