حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْقِبْلَةِ نُخَامَةً فَأَخَذَ عُودًا أَوْ حَصَاةً فَحَكَّهَا بِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ يُصَلِّي فَلَا يَبْصُقْ فِي قِبْلَتِهِ فَإِنَّمَا يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4877
It was narrated that lbn "Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saw some sputum in the qiblah (of the mosque). He took a stick or pebble and scratched it, then he said: "When one of you stands to pray, let him not spit in front of him, for he is conversing with his Lord, may He be blessed and exalted."
