حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ قَالَ كَتَبْتُ إِلَى نَافِعٍ أَسْأَلُهُ هَلْ كَانَتْ الدَّعْوَةُ قَبْلَ الْقِتَالِ قَالَ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ إِنَّ ذَاكَ كَانَ فِي أَوَّلِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أَغَارَ عَلَى بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ وَهُمْ غَارُّونَ وَأَنْعَامُهُمْ تُسْقَى عَلَى الْمَاءِ فَقَتَلَ مُقَاتِلَتَهُمْ وَسَبَى سَبْيَهُمْ وَأَصَابَ يَوْمَئِذٍ جُوَيْرِيَةَ ابْنَةَ الْحَارِثِ وَحَدَّثَنِي بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ وَكَانَ فِي ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشِ

مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4857

Ibn 'Awn said: I wrote to Naafi' askiin him: Were the people called (to Islam} before fighting? He wrote back to me (sving): That was only at the beginning of Islam. The messenger of Allah (PBUH) raided Banu l-Mustahq when they were Unaware[1] , and their cattle were drinking at the water. He killed their warriors and took their women and children captive. On that day Juwavriyah, the daughter of al-Haarith, fell to his lot. 'Abd-Allah ibn 'Umar narrated this hadeeth to me, and he was one of that army.
