مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4849
Ziyaad ibn Subayh al-Hanafi said: I was standing in prayer, facing the Ka’bah and there was an old man beside me. I made my prayer long, and I put my hands on my hips. The old man struck my chest with all his strength and I wondered to myself: Why is he annoyed with me? I hastened to finish my prayer, and I saw a boy sitting behind him. I said: Who is this old man? He said; This is 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar. I sat down (and waited) until he finished praying, then I said; O Abu 'Abd ar-Rahmaan, why did you get annoyed with me? He said; Are you the one? I said: Yes. He said: That is making a cross-like shape in prayer, and the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to forbid that.
