حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ صَلَاةُ الْمَغْرِبِ وِتْرُ النَّهَارِ فَأَوْتِرُوا صَلَاةَ اللَّيْلِ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4847
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Maghrib prayer is the Witr of the day (and makes the prayers of the day odd-numbered), so pray Witr at night (to make the prayers of the night odd-numbered).”
