حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِذَا يَعْنِي ضَنَّ النَّاسُ بِالدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ وَتَبَايَعُوا بِالْعَيْنِ وَاتَّبَعُوا أَذْنَابَ الْبَقَرِ وَتَرَكُوا الْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهِمْ بَلَاءً فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى يُرَاجِعُوا دِينَهُمْ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4825
It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: "When people hold on to dinars and dirhams, enter into 'eenah' transactions, take hold of the tails of cattle (and are content with farming), and forsake jihad for the sake of Allah, Allah will send down calamity upon them and will not relieve them of it until they return to their religion.”
